Angry Bug Bites!!

Summer is coming - which means I become one giant pincushion target for bugs, sand flies, green head flies, spiders, whatever, if it bites or stings, it will find me, and I will get a nasty reaction in the form of a giant red, itchy, painful lump that takes forever to go away and then leaves a scar

Last summer I had 16 going in week Poeple love having me around as the bugs will bite me first...

I have tried all types of repellents, citronella, skin so soft, I don't know what to do anymore

Anyone have any ideas, please?!?

I hear you LOUD and CLEAR Marilyn27! I'm the same way, I 'feel your pain'! My hubby likes to have me around, especially when camping, as ALL the mosquitoes, flies, gnats, whatever....like me soooo much better.

Just a couple of nights ago, while in bed, I was bitten by what I think might have been a spider, as we have a lot of pine/spruce trees in our yard and lots of spider activity in the house.

I have 5 red spots in my stomach area, and 2 red spots on my leg, all in the same night, and obviously from the same bug! They itch, and of course, I've been scratching like I always do!

They say either eating garlic, or making a spray of crushed garlic mixed with water, works as a repellent. I haven't tried it, so I don't know if it works.

They say that the insects are more attracted to women, and that really seems to be true, at least in my experience! We've spent some time camping in Canada and Alaska during the summer months, and the mosquitoes, 'no-seeums', and horse flies are relentless! Even using military strength bug dope didn't help me at all. My face, neck and arms were covered in scabs from scratching like a lunatic.

Terrible isn't it? What prompted this thread is that today I got a bite - the wind is 35 mph with huge gusts, and it's only May, but the bugs are out in the Jersey shore!! Ihave a nice, unidentified red welt on my elbow...

When we were hanging out at the beach on the Oregon Coast, the sand flies were biting me like crazy, and that was late summer/fall.

It's funny, because even now, though it's only May, I start to notice the insect activity. I'm noticing flies and grasshoppers, which don't bite, but I'm not happy when the weather conditions make them excessive and they're flying all over the place. Same with moths, some summers are ok, and other summers, they really seem to invade! Guess I'm getting into phobias here, instead of bug bites.

You may need to take more B vitamins. Get a good B vitamin supplement such as produced by Jarrow. Take one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Then go to a good health food store and pick up the homeopathic remedy called staphsagria in 30c potency. Take it daily during bug season or as needed. If it seems to help for half a day only then repeat it that day. If it helps for week only take it once a week.

Garlic is the answer! Take a quarter of a garlic clove a day. Just put it in your mouth and swallow it with water like you were taking a pill or supplement.

So - up the B vit, take some staphsagria, garlic cloves and no bananas... CHECK!

Thank you very much - I will start tomorrow - I'll let you all know at the end of the summer how it went, hopefully I won't be a sieve!

Kind2creatures, don't know where you are, but here on the East Coast it has been so wet lately they are saying this year will be a bumper crop of mossies...

I have the same problem: Mosquitos! They love me, although DEET works, I have issues with using it, it gets absorbed through the skin. Also, when I lived in minnesota, there were these things that bit and they really hurt, although for just a few secons and they look like black dots!

Yeah, see, DEET doesn't even work for me...

The really bad ones here are the green headed flies, they are huge and just take a big chomp, leaves a crater and then a large purple welt...

Once upon a time... I saw a news report somewhere about a test for mosquito repellent. They tested various thing in the wild with several people. They tested various folklore and OTC products. The woman, who rubbed a sliced tomato on her arms and face, was the only one that did not get a bite.

Question Bug Bites!

I used to have a terrible time w/mosquito bites but have had none since I
began eating garlic daily. The same with flies, esp the ones called horse flies. I'd use up a bottle of clear fingernail polish in 1 1/2 months just trying to get rid of the itching.
I hated to use Deet too, Saved. I didn't like the feel of it on my skin, plus I
later read that it isn't healthy to use. At the price of tomatoes these days, I think I'll pass on that one. But, I have often wondered if rubbing an onion
over the exposed skin would work?

Earlybird, 2 things

1) I lived in bonaire in 04 and got nailed repeatedly by mosquitos, I asked a doc at the med school there and he told me there is a genetic predisposition for people to get nailed by mosquitos, which explains why some get it more than others.

2) Off topic, but onion prices have doubled in the last month.

It was explained to me, and for the life of me, I dont remember where, when or who....but twas explained to me, that if you are unhealthy, the nasty little varmits will try and eat you.... supposedly these animals are used in the process of cleaning up the world... they are the trash eaters.... supposedly, if you are unhealthy, your body lets off an odor of death or something to these animals, and they are attracted to that smell... Same with animals, unhealthy dogs and cats will attract fleas and ticks and other nasty varmits...but supposedly the truly healthy animals and peoples, have no problems with bugs.....Its a thought.
