Since I am new to the board, I am VERY curious about your daily incorporations of natural, holistic practices.
  1. What do you eat? Diet of choice?

  6. What beauty/hygiene products do you use?
  7. What restaurants will you refuse to visit?
  8. Do you have the support of your friends and family?
  9. What is your favorite piece of advice for those considering natural alternatives?

Time for me to answer my own questions:

1. I eat and align my foods according to the paleo diet. Moderate to low amounts of carbs, raw/cooked organic veggies, grass fed meats, Komboucha drinks, grass fed eggs and butter, bacon, coconut/olive oil. Wheat causes internal inflammation and I avoid most grains and nuts. Intake of seeds once a week.

2. I clean with mostly vinegar and baking soda. I have a steam mop and I do use ammonia cloride for cleaning off the keyboard and mouse.

3. I currently do not have health insurance. But I would like a homeopathic doctor in the future.

4. My husband and I have a guinea pig and we feed him Timothy Hay, lots of veggies, and his pellets.

5. I am still discovering alternative medicine but I do buy homeopathetic medicine at whole foods when I am ill.

6. I do use a store brand concealer and eyeshadow but natural foundation for my face. I have natural lip balm, without any vegetable oils.

7. I refuse to eat at any fast food restaurant and just recently I am weaning off most restaurants.

8. I do not have the support of friends and family that I wish I did. My father/brother in law do not buy into the "natural and organic" movement. My husband is a little more accepting but because of expenses, discourages too much shopping at Whole Foods. None of my family or friends are concerned about diet and health like I am.

9. Avoid vegetable oils and sugar!

  2. What do you clean with? Vinegar, perfume free/natural detergents.
  3. What doctor do you see? Health insurance with HMO, see doctors only when necessary, no mammograms, vaccinations, etc.
  4. What do you feed your pets? Any product that doesn't contain too many chemicals, preservatives, olive/coconut oil added to dry foods.
  5. What alternative medicines do you advocate? Big fan of garlic, coconut oil, omega 3 fish oil, vitamin D3, B-vitamins, MSM (methyl-sulfonyl-methane) for inflammation, vitamin k2 (keeps calcium out of arteries) and magnesium for muscle health.
  6. What beauty/hygiene products do you use? Alba Botanica Jasmine & Vitamin E and Aloe & Green Tea facial moisturizers.
  7. What restaurants will you refuse to visit? Fast food is not okay, and after learning of kitchen hygiene in restaurants (Kitchen Nightmares show), usually prefer eating at home.
  8. Do you have the support of your friends and family? My husband is supportive and receptive. I try not to shop at Whole Foods, too pricey. Better deals in other stores or online.
  9. What is your favorite piece of advice for those considering natural alternatives? Research any supplements or herbs before use for side-effects or interactions. Natural foods are always healthier than processed, read labels.

1. I am close to a paleo diet. I have followed it in the extreme in the past but not currently. I am learning to grow my own food and we plan to raise grass fed beef. We have a couple hundred pounds of grass fed heifer in the freezer right now. I dont feel that I can afford grass fed butter at $10 a pound. I hope to raise grass fed pig (kune kune pigs) in the future. I eat a lot of goatsmilk yogurt that I make myself

2. I clean with regular Dish soap, Dawn Free and MMS2. I wash my own self with my own homemade soap, and use homemade laundry detergent for clothing.

3. I see two doctors as needed. One is a classical homeopath MD in the Seattle area and the other is a regular MD who does some alternative medicine and bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. She's a very smart lady when it comes to diagnosis. I also see a chiropractor on occassion.

4. I feed my dog regular dog chow, but the highest protien I can find. I dont feed them the high dollar natural foods because its too expensive. He lives a free lifestyle without chain. He's pretty happy and pretty healthy except for a leg injury that causes a limp and pain once in a while. I give him Remedyl for it and it works well. About 2 pills a month. I feed my cats cheap cat chow and they eat lots of field mice and goats milk. They get wormed every 3 months. No body gets vaccines, except the dog as it is required by law as well as to go to Mexico, and he ends up in dog jail occassionally and to get out he must have a rabbies vaccine.

5. For alternative medicine I advocate homeopathy, both classical and non classical, MMS1 and MMS2, Ozone therapy, IV nutrients if needed, Vitamin C therapy, Vitamin D3 therapy, Rife therapy, herbal detox, Iodine therapy, and general nutritional therapy.

6. I use regular cheap stuff that is non-organic. I dont see wasting the money on other high dollar rip off cosmetics. That being said I use very little cosmetics... but I do use quality facial and body lotions.

7. I refuse all fast food restuants. The last time I was in one, a McDonalds,, was to take shelter from a tornado 15 years ago. Thats what it takes to get me into one.

8. I have the support of my husband but he would prefer I not press my stuff on him to much. He does take vitamins daily and my frightful nutrient shakes. Friends come and go with different perspectives. I accept all people no matter what their beliefs, they just better be ready if they ask me about mine.

9. Eat organic and eat raw when you can and learn about mms and the dangers of antibiotics.... and oh so much more.

Hi LifeAtZen,

Welcome to the forum!

We eat near paleo as well. It's all about whole organic foods. Steaming is my preferred cooking method. If God didn't make it I don't want it.

We clean with Fels Naptha soap for dishes, soda wash and borax or soap nuts for laundry (sometimes I'll put in some hydrogen peroxide or vinegar), A homemade multipurpose cleaner of white vinegar, liquid soap and lavender oil, Fels Naptha for body. Aubrey Organics for hair. I like to use vinegar as a rinse for my hair and body when I take the time to do it.

My current doctor is a hematologist who does live blood cell analysis.

My dog ate raw meat with nutritional yeast, cod liver oil and a multivitamins.

I advocate apple cider vinegar drinks, fasting with nutrient dense fluids, digestive enzymes, colloidal silver, iodine, liver flushes, high vit. C and probiotics.

I've released the pressure to wear makeup although today I put some Burts Bees lipgloss on as I was arriving at the library. For face I wash with water and put on castor oil at night and it nourishes all night long. I have very dry skin. I like to dry brush my skin whenever I make time to do it.

No more restaurants for us.

Family doesn't understand but hubby is on board. He reads the books I read. Once you know something it's hard to ignore it.

Glad you're here.

  1. I'm vegan for ethical reasons. Please don't start arguing about that, I've been through every possible argument a hundred times. Within that, I follow a wholefood diet generally according to Traditional Chinese Medicine principles, based around whole grains and lots of fresh vegetables, as much locally grown as possible. Hopefully I will soon be moving into a house with a garden so I can grow some veg and look after a couple of rescued ex-battery hens in exchange for a few eggs.
  2. A lot of cleaning I do with water. I use some eco-friendly cleaning products, getting refills where possible or choosing those with paper packaging. I use oxy bleach for stain removal and sterilisation.
  3. My first resort for any problems is my qi gong teacher, who is a master of traditional Chinese healing arts. If I'm coming down with a cold or something, I go to him for herbs. The only time I've used conventional medicine in the past 10 or more years was to have a broken finger set. My qi gong practice takes care of most of my health needs.
  4. I don't have any pets. Hoping to have some rescued hens soon, and I will be encouraging wildlife in the garden when I have one.
  5. I only know in any depth about traditional Chinese medicine, so I can recommend that as I have a good understanding of the theory behind it. It really stands out on its own, a complete and integrated theory of human functioning. I believe it is one of the highest achievements of humanity. But it's not a good idea to self-prescribe Chinese herbs as the diagnostic system is quite involved, and the herbal formulas are very powerful.
  6. Water. Pure olive oil soap. The best cosmetic is healthy internal organs.
  7. I certainly wouldn't go near any of the big fast-food chains! They are totalitarian earth-destroying monsters with killing tentacles of hypnotic propaganda. Every time I go into town I see crowds of people who have been crippled by the lifestyle sold to them by these criminals. I don't eat out that much because I can usually cook better food than restaurants do, but if I do, I'm looking for good vegan options.
  8. My parents are sympathetic up to a point. They believe in corporate medicine more than I do, but they are also sympathetic to natural healing. The differences of opinion happen because they are mostly stuck in a conceptual relationship to health, rather than direct inner experience. They eat very healthy food, a lot of which comes from my dad's allotment (small vegetable patches available at very low rent from local councils in the UK).
  9. My advice to everyone who wants to be healthy (which should be everyone!) is to understand that you need a fully holistic approach. It is simply not possible to have an unhealthy lifestyle and feel well in the long term. The best way to understand this is to get in tune with your own body by gently detoxifying yourself with a nourishing, wholefood diet (no fancy products needed) and to take up some kind of holistic exercise discipline such as qi gong (I just chose this example because I know about it). I think it's important to get away from the consumerist mentality that thinks you can just buy some product that will make you healthy. Becoming healthy in mind and body requires a total transformation of your self. Most of us (at least in Western industrialised parts of the world) have been indoctrinated into a pseudo-culture created by corporate marketing executives that actively want to make us unhealthy for their own power and greed.

Thank you all for replies! because of time retraints, I cannot reply to each one but I have read them all and I am excited others care about their health.

I am a little discouraged that my husband is a bit behind. I don't know why he is not as receptive as the others on here. He is more skeptical and he keeps saying, "have you looked at other guys? I am the strongest i have ever been."

He went to Mcdonalds yesterday and I was a bit angry at that. Sounds silly but I don't like supporting those fast food companies.

Here is what I found and its sad: If you care about your health, you are an outsider..different. If you refuse to eat at Mcdonalds, people think you are stuckup or an "elitist."

I really dislike how unhealthy food is embraced in this country.

I am curious about the eggs, thus, the vegan quote.

Also, where do you get your B12 and L-Carnosine from, if I might ask?

I am not vegan although I'm working toward that lifestyle. Its better for health, better for the planet, and obviously better for animals.
Companies like Monsanto are destroying organic fields with their GMO crops, and they have most of the judges in their deep pockets.
