Default Alcohol the world's best medicine ?

Here is an interesting article about alcohol in the world of health.

https://drpinna.com/alcohol-the-world...-part-ii-20839

Why drink to reduce the risk of heart disease? Wouldnt eating a good diet, exercising, and losing weight do the same thing?
No, it wouldnt. The moderate consumption of alcohol appears to be more effective than most other lifestyle changes that are used to lower the risk of heart and other diseases.
For example, the average person would need to follow a very strict low-fat diet, exercise vigorously on a regular basis, eliminate salt from the diet, lose a substantial amount of weight, and probably begin medication in order to lower cholesterol by 30 points or blood pressure by 20 points.
But medical research suggests that alcohol can have a greater impact on heart disease than even these hard-won reductions in cholesterol levels or blood pressure. Only cessation of smoking is more effective. Additionally, other medical research suggests that adding alcohol to a healthful diet is more effective than just following the diet alone.

But becoming an alcoholic will destroy the heart as is undermines sound nutrition and will deteriorate the liver, your line of defense organ for almost all pathogenic detox processes.

And I can think of even more problems Arrow. You are right about the liver. I had a young friend who screwed up his liver from too much alcohol. He got a transplant, but did not survive long.

The sugar is a problem too.

I do think that very moderate alcohol is OK. What about the notorious French wine with dinners?

I haven't studied all the stuff in that article yet. Some of the stuff makes sense, but many people don't have sense.

The article is about moderation, the liver issues is from abuse. 1-2 glasses a day has been sited over 7 billion times as being healthy and you won't have liver issues from moderate consumption.

What did surprise me was that all the recommendations have been red wine and 1 glass for women and up to 2 glasses for men, but this says:

drinking alcohol in moderation (1-2 drinks per day for women and 2-4 for men) was found to reduce risk of mortality significantly according to meta-analysis of 34 studies of alcohol and total mortality among 1,015,835 men and women around the world.

Well up to 4 glasses is almost a bottle of wine? Seems like a lot per day even for a man.

I do think most people who drink one glass or two for dinner are doing their health a benefit.
