Breakthrough Study Links Prostate Cancer, Depression, IBS, Adrenal Fatigue...
Xania, something for your husband, and for anyone else with prostate problems.
It is interesting how toxic metals also seem to linked to brain disorders, too. adhd, depression, alzheimers, anxiety disorders.. this might be something to try first.
and it seems to help bowel disorders, too.
Breakthrough Study Links Prostate Cancer, Depression, IBS, Adrenal Fatigue And Allergies To Lead And Mercury Toxic Load In Body
Better Health Publishing, announced the results of a breakthrough study in linking multiple medical conditions to the accumulation of toxic metals in the body. Research documenting the effects of modified citrus pectin combined with alginates on the positive clinical outcome of several patients, each with a different health condition appeared in the December-January issue of Forschende Komplementarmedizin (Research in Complementary Medicine), an international peer-reviewed medical journal.
"From light bulbs, dental fillings and mascara to toxic toys, we all suffer from everyday exposure to dangerous toxic metals," said Isaac Eliaz, M.D., L.Ac., M.S. and the lead researcher of the study. "This report of five case studies confirms that modified citrus pectin combined with alginates is both safe and effective and has been proven to significantly address toxic heavy metal burden in patients with a number of different health conditions. The new clinical results can truly impact what is believed to be an epidemic of toxic pollution of the body with heavy metals."
Using modified citrus pectin combined with alginates evolved out of successful clinical trials of Modified Citrus Pectin (MCP) alone, after it had proved effective in selectively removing toxic metals and (most importantly) not affecting the body's essential minerals. MCP and alginates (derived from kelp seaweed) is an improved formulation for a more effective binding and removal of toxic metals, without side effects and the risk of toxin re-absorption and redistribution in the body. The clinical study was performed at the Amitabha Medical Clinic in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The five cases reported in the published study include:
1. A 59-year old male with a prostate cancer diagnosis and a suspected history of metal toxicity began a combined regimen of MCP treatment including modified citrus pectin combined with alginates. At three months, his lead level decreased 49 percent. His PSA dropped from 102 to <0.1, where it has remained over 18 months. No adverse effects were reported.
2. A 64-year old female with potential toxic metal exposure and a history of anxiety and depression began treatment with modified citrus pectin combined with alginates. At two months her lead levels decreased by 100 percent and her mercury levels decreased by 83 percent. Her symptoms improved during treatment and she reports that they remain resolved. No adverse effects were reported.
3. A 67-year old male with a 25 year history of prostatitis and prostate enlargement (including frequency and discomfort) and other symptoms including fatigue, chronic loose stool, asthma and allergies began treatment with modified citrus pectin combined with alginates. At nine months his mercury levels reduced by 80 percent. During this time his symptoms also stabilized dramatically resulting in regular bowel movements, an improvement in asthma and allergies and a PSA drop from 5.5 to 3.84. No adverse effects were reported.
4. A 45-year old male with symptoms of adrenal fatigue(including low cortisol levels, non-restorative sleep, and inability to gain weight) began treatment with modified citrus pectin combined with alginates. At seven months, his mercury levels dropped by 58 percent. He has since gained 10 pounds and experienced marked improvements in energy and sleeping patterns. No adverse effects were reported.
5. A 57-year old male with suspected mercury exposure and a decade-long history of headaches, constipation, IBS, elevated liver enzymes and a family history of Alzheimer's disease began treatment with MCP after 12 months, his mercury levels were reduced by 73 percent and his symptoms subsided. No adverse effects were reported.
Better Health Publishing, founded by Isaac Eliaz, M.D. is a publishing house that focuses on the publication of key works promoting health and wellness. The staff at Better Health Publishing believes that a natural and efficacious lifestyle is the cornerstone of a return to healthy and sustainable society. The works published by BHP strive to promote this concept and disseminate to the public a healthier choice.
The modified citrus pectin combined with alginates used in the study was PectaSol Chelation Complex. PectaSol is a registered trademark of EcoNugenics, Inc., Santa Rosa, California.
I might try this.. don't have anything specific.. but, I've got a lifetime of living in suburbia. what bothers me about living in the north, is the fact that you live half the year with windows closed. I grew up with a breeze going thru the house (Miami). miss that A LOT.

AbstractThis study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of modified citrus pectin (MCP) on the urinary excretion of toxic elements in healthy individuals.
MCP is a reduced molecular weight pectin (weight-average molar mass = 15400) that is mostly linear homogalacturonan with a 3.8% degree of esterification and approximately 10% rhamnogalacturonan II based on the presence of 2-keto-3-deoxy-octonic acid.
Subjects ingested 15 g of MCP (PectaSol, EcoNugenics Inc., Santa Rosa, California 95407) each day for 5 days and 20 g on day 6. Twenty-four hour urine samples were collected on day 1 and day 6 for comparison with baseline. The urine samples were analysed for toxic and essential elements.
In the first 24 h of MCP administration the urinary excretion of arsenic increased significantly (130%, p < 0.05).
On day 6, urinary excretion was increased significantly for cadmium (150%, p < 0.05).
In addition, lead showed a dramatic increase in excretion (560%, p < 0.08).
This pilot trial provides the first evidence that oral administration of MCP increases significantly the urinary excretion of toxic metals in subjects with a normal body load of metals.
It is suggested that systemic chelation of toxic metals by MCP may in part be attributable to the presence of rhamnogalacturonan II, which has been shown previously to chelate metals. Copyright 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
I just emailed him the news about scorpio's post. I haven't yet heard back from him.
I also emailed the report to Dr Mirkin and another more alt-minded MD. I doubt Mirkin will be impressed with the small study but what's the downside? Pecta-Sol is an old supplement with lots of studies. The only new ingredient is the alginates.
