Hi, my son has been suffering from autism for years. Now a friend of mine told that I/he should use Epsom Salt to absorb magnesium, which is said to relax the muscles. So did you ever hear about it? And btw what is the best product out there? So many Epsom salt and so much variety in prices. Can somebody weigh in? thanks.
I had not heard this magnesium thing with autism, but I would think that good old epsom salts put into a bath is good enough. You can get it at any drug store.
BTW, I've been in communication with a mother who has a young autistic child that she has been working diligently to help. She is very strict on his diet, no junk, and has been using MMS with some success. You may want to learn about that. I have heard more than one report that MMS has been helpful with autism. I do think there could be a microbe issue with autism as the vaccines so damage the immune system that strange microbes are in places not generally considered making havoc with the nervous system, especially where the nervous system interfaces with the intestines and colon.

Hi! I also guess, your friend is right. Some studies have proven that autistic children lack Magnesium and they do get better if they get more of it. Through a bath in Epsom Salt - which is pure Magnesium sulfate, they soak lots of this important Mineral nutrient. So, I would highly recommend to try it. Definitely one of the good Epsom salts is REV. It's relatively new on the market, but it contains high-quality, natural Epsom salt. You can get it @CVS.
Another very good means of getting magnesium into the system is magnesium oil, which, for an adult, can be sprayed onto the skin where it is absorbed into the system. It burns me a little at first, so might be too strong for a child, but it can be diluted with a little water to tame it. It can also be used in a bath, the same as Epsom Salts. It isn't really an oil, but feels like oil when applied to the skin. You can find it here:
Another nutrient you might consider is Vitamin D3. There is a lot of information on the vitamin's effect in relation to Autism at this site, The Vitamin D Council:
I have a nephew with autism and my sister has found that giving him epsom salt baths before bed has really improved his sleep. Then recently we were in Walgreens and found a new brand of epsom salt called Pepsom Sports in the first aid aisle. It has a great spearmint scent and my nephew loves it because it is endorsed by the NBA trainers. Plus it is only about $3.00 so it is very affordable on almost any budget. If your child is having difficulty either falling asleep or staying asleep throughout the night I would highly recommend an epsom salt bath. Happy soaking!
In Mark Sircus' book 'Terror of Pediatric Medicine' it says that, according to Dr. Ellen Grant, nearly all of the autistic children tested at Biolab had zink, copper, SODase and magnesium deficiencies. I'm not sure how many were tested there or how long ago, since I believe that was one of Mark's first books and was written several years ago. That book can be downloaded free at his site.
Many feel that mercury is a major cause of autism. Mercury displaces essential elements like magnesium, zink and copper from cells, causing disruptions of enzyme systems, so when nutritional deficiencies are corrected, we can expect that we will see a reversal in symptoms. For instance, a double-blind administration of 200 mg of elemental magnesium per day to 25 children produced measurable decrease in hyperactivity over a 6 month period compared to controle.
I get the same results when I give my grandson zink. He has ADHD and within 5 or 10 minutes zink will calm him right down to normal.
I am unsure of the science behind where Autism comes from or whether all people with autism are deficient in magnesium (or other minerals). All I know is that soaking with Pepsom Sports has been best thing that has ever happened to my sister. My nephew is much more calm and sleeps so much better. I highly recommend trying this product because it only costs around $3 and according to my sister is the best $3 she has ever spent. Best of luck to you on your quest for information.
