I meditate daily and I am so glad science is beginning to catch on to a good thing!

As am I, Health Junkie.
I think part of the reason for this is that science isn't considered a threat or antithetical to the goals of meditation - by many groups that teach and promote this practice. I have several CDs (that my father gave me) that focus on the collaboration of science and meditation (primarily of the Buddhist variety). It explains how key members, within the Buddhist ranks, like the Dalai Lama have actively sought out scientists to help prove or disprove the traditional views of their faith (particularly in relation to meditation). It's quite interesting. What sort of changes/benefits have you found from your daily meditation? Any down-sides, in your experience?

The benefits would be peace. I am not looking for spiritual experiences although I had those when I began meditating years ago. I thought there was a downside to meditating at one time because when I first began meditating years ago, I had terrible fears to emerge. I thought there must be something wrong with me but on looking back I can see that the fears were there and needed to come to the surface. My interests are in the non-duality traditions taught by Ramana Maharshi, Papaji, Adyashanti and Tolle. HJ |

I think meditation is great... for other people.
I took a meditation class years ago, and everytime I went "deep", I started seeing scenes like on a television. I saw a train running on what looked like a countryside, then it went off the track (I was watching from the rear to the side, so I couldn't see what caused it to go off)... and it wrecked. It was like I was there, I could see it in great detail (like watching a show on television) , I could hear people screaming.. it was quite bad. after that, I decided maybe this wasn't for me. but... I've heard great things about it from other people. I did learn how to relax, and I have used that regularly and think that is very beneficial. |

I watched the biography/documentary of the Dalai Lama today. Truly inspiring. All he has been through and his perception and compassion continues to grow. They say that he longs for the day when he can retreat to really focus on his spiritual work, more so than the 4 hours a day he currently puts into it.
One of the goals of meditation is to develop that mediative state of mind no matter what activity that you are doing. Hence many little processes, prayers, behaviors have been developed to practice as you do your daily chores or work.
