Reiki, Healing and Profound Prayer

I am preparing to re-enter the work of massage and laying on of the hands. It is my profound belief that healing comes from within and that all the different medicines of the earth, all the different techniques of medicine are only to help us find our own ability to self sustain and mend and that ultimately all disease and all healing is but a teaching to lead us to our own truth.

I was first introduced to this at around the age of 23 and had the fortune to study with a minister of the Church of Religious Science. He was a great healer and teacher, Rev. Chris Gronnenbeck. During this phase of my life that was beset with searching, and great fears he gave me courage to explore myself and others and the mysteries of life.

Though his guidance I started to study Charles Filmore which started to show me an expaned reality within the Christian Doctrine.

These teachings guided me for a time and though my exploration of the Upanisads and other ancient Vedic and Buddist literature and well into my journey into Native American teachings where I found the greatest resonance for myself. Eventually it lead me to move to Kansas City to become a minister of Unity Church after I completed nursing school but after being there for a while I realized that this attraction was not to be my destiny.

Ultimately I found that the core of the teachings that I explored were greatly similar and most of the teachings had inner teachings that held views of creation and the cosmos that were almost identical if you got past the illusions of the symbology and myth.

So though this I entered into understanding the principle of prayer and in plane English Ernest Holmes defines prayer as your total expression of thought.

In the 1920s Holmes published the following statement of beliefs:

I believe in God, the Living Spirit Almighty; one, indestructible, absolute and self-existent Cause.

This One manifests itself in and through all creation, but is not absorbed by its creation. The manifest universe is the body of God; it is the logical and necessary outcome of the infinite self-knowingness of God.

I believe in the incarnation of the Spirit in all, and that we are all incarnations of the One Spirit.

I believe in the eternality, the immortality, and the continuity of the individual soul, forever and ever expanding.

I believe that the Kingdom of Heaven is within me and that I experience this Kingdom to the degree that I become conscious of it.

I believe the ultimate goal of life to be a complete emancipation from all discord of every nature, and that this goal is sure to be attained by all.

I believe in the unity of all life, and that the highest God and the innermost God is one God.

I believe that God is personal to all who feel this indwelling Presence.

I believe in the direct revelation of Truth through my intuitive and spiritual nature, and that anyone may become a revealer of Truth who lives in close contact with the Indwelling God.

I believe that the Universal Spirit which is God, operates through a Universal Mind, which is the Law of God; and that I am surrounded by this Creative Mind which receives the direct impress of my thought and acts upon it.

I believe in the healing of the sick through the power of the Mind.

I believe in the control of conditions through the power of the Mind.

I believe in the eternal Goodness, the eternal Loving-kindness and the eternal Givingness of Life to all.

I believe in my own soul, my own spirit, and my own destiny; for I understand that the life I live is God.

In my massage work that I did for 6 years before I went to nursing school I practiced the laying on of hands and more conscious prayer techniques with clients as their receptivity permitted. Rev. Chris, although now long gone from my presence physically guided me at times in the dream state.

When I was actively participating and learning the work of Rev. Chris he told me that he would help me in regard to issues with my father. But circumstances changed and that never occurred while I was with him in San Deigo. Chris retired and moved away. Close to the day of his departure I saw him standing in a group of people. His back was turned from me. Suddenly he turned around and said to me not to worry. That he would be there. Then he turned back and resumed his conversation. I was stunned. I just walked away..somewhat confused. All I could feel at the time was that his loss would be great to me.

It was during a Polarity session 4 years later, which is not too different from Reiki in many regards, that Rev. Chris came to me in the dream during the session to help resolve damaging issues regarding my father that were spiritually and psychologically holding me back in my growth. After this, Chris never returned.

So now with this wonderful internet I am re-exploring some of the teachings that came from Rev.Chris and other teachers from along the way. Reiki is a relatively new movement to the USA that came out of Japan, but it is in essence the same teachings that Rev. Chris gave on the laying on of hands. I would go for sessions with Chris and he would work on me, teaching me and others at the same time.

It was during one of these sessions that I had my first out of body experience. Chris was doing the laying of of hands on me. I laid on his table suspended in a profound sense of peace and love running through my veins, as I would have said then but now know that this sensation was actually coursing through my meridians. Circulating through my body. Suddenly I was way out of my body up in the air looking over the church and Chris and the other people there. Chris started laughing and said. "Look! She's there now!"

Reiki came to the US some years later. I have never taken the reiki courses but have known practitioners. From what I have gleaned from them and the work they do it is identical to what Rev. Chris taught us in his little Church in the Mission Hills of San Diego. I went though a period of time of resentment towards Reiki for charging such high prices and creating a certification program for what should in my mind be free and accessible to all. Guess I am still working on letting go of that one.

But now the Reiki teachings are becoming more accessible. I found these videos on You tube. I am not sure if these are from a Reiki practitoner or not but the teachings are identical to what Rev. Chris taught and there are videos very similar on you tube from Reiki folks. I thought that these were the best so I have posted them.
