Donut and bread update
Our church (greek orthodox) sold gyros and pastries fri and today for a local event. While we were getting ready this older greek guy who use to own a bakery was saying "what are they doing with food today, when I had my bakery, donuts were a multi hour process with the flour, butter, yeast and you had to let it rise twice, today all the bakeries by frozen pre made donut dough." He also mentioned italian bread is pre bought dough and a cousin in NY works at a jewish bakery and she told me the challah's are pre bought frozen dough. We have one italian bakery left (3 when I was growing up in the 70s) that makes the bread from scratch. And you can tell: you but the bread and what is left over the next day is like a rock. Which is what real bread is suppose to do.
