Ideally calcium is best counterbalanced with magnesium so checking on sources of that is also worth doing. Krispin has it about right, 5 to 10 milligrams per day per kilo of ideal body weight or 2.5 to 4.5 milligrams per day per pound of ideal body weight. Example: 70 kilos or 150 pounds= 350 mg. to 700 mg. daily.
and it's also worth checking that you have good food sources of vitamin K or take a mixed form of vitamin K2.

Dr Cannell vitamin d council has more on vitamin D co factors.
So - should I be looking at taking some D2 AS WELL as D3?

I've gone for 10,000iu D3 a day for now as we basically don't see sun for the next few months. We do see plenty chemtrails though

I generally try to get vits etc from food sources so it's not so easy to measure amounts of cal & mag. I have been thinking about K2 supplementation as my body isn't coping well with veg at the moment.

Slightly off topic - how do you convert from nmol/l to ng/ml?

Thanks to tobylee02 for UK site still pricey but at least this side of the pond

Only if you are a rat or a plant Humans use and create cholecalciferol. If we do get some vit D2 in our diet (from mushrooms) then some of us can convert it into D3 but as not everyone can it's not reliable and it's not as effective.

Through the winter that will be fine but If you can afford it a 25(OH)D test in the spring will show you where you stand and allow you to make sensible evidence based decision about how much you can lower your daily intake so you stay around 60ng/ml through the summer.l

If you are on dairy I don't think the calcium should be a problem. I think we all need extra magnesium now because our food sources are not as rich in magnesium as they were.
Recipe for magnesium bicarbonate water I use 1 litre of this every day.

Food sources of vitamin K

x 2.5 or /2.5
100 nmol/l divided by 2.5 = 40ng/ml
50ng/ml X 2.5 = 125nmol/l
After a bit your brain just sees the number and converts it instantly without any conscious effort but a lot of newbies to Vit d simply quote the number without saying whether it's ng/ml or nmol/l and then you have to do some guesswork.

Yes but if you've still got to buy some magnesium and some vitamin K or whatever unless you enjoy being ripped off for living in Britain I think it's cheaper overall to buy from USA.
Take that vitamin K you were thinking about H & B charge
Vitamin K2 Capsules (50ug) 30 Capsules cost per capsule 0.42 12.59
Whereas the online US discount site that has the lowest shipping to the UK charges
Life Extension, Super K, with Advanced K2 Complex, 90 Softgels
Our price: $19.50 (12.65)
So you see you get 3 times as for just a few pence more
And the H&B ones are just K2 whereas the complex Iherb sells contain
Vitamin K2 (as menaquinone-7) 100 mcg
Vitamin K2 (as menaquinone-4) 1000 mcg
Vitamin K1 1000 mcg
Medium chain triglycerides (MCT oil) 215 mg
You are getting more than 4 times the amount of vitamin k in each capsule and 3 times as many capsules and getting a complex rather than a single form of vit k gives your body more chance of having the form you require available.

To be honest it's actually easier for me to get my vits delivered and so if I go for the IHERB option and use DHL as the carrier (DHL only charge 1.25 for collecting the tax, Post Office 8) the discounts I get for bulk buying and being a regular customer counterbalance the VAT and it's generally quicker than using UK online discount providers (Healthspan)

That's not to say I've anything against Toby's site. He does an awful lot to make people aware of the use of vitamin D and I've no argument with him at all. It's just I'm a miser and hate spending more money than I have to for anything, I'm also lazy so doing it all online and having it delivered in a few days all from the same place is easier for me. Use code WAB666 if you haven't used IHERB before For a $5 discount and share your discount code with others so you also get ongoing discounts off your next order. Do explain to people about the Customs duty (17.5% on anything above 18 and the different costs between DHL/PO for collecting that tax. and remember after xmas it's going up to 20% vat.) It's also worth pointing out that CUSTOMS use their own exchange rate. ( I use google toolbar just write 50 USD in GBP = and it converts it for you) so you have to leave a margin for error The rate s may change between the time you order and those goods are in the hands of UK customs.

Thanks again Ted, youre always so promptJ

Id got myself in a fankle trying to convert 76 and 144 nmol to mg for a Canadian friend trying to see where her levels are/were. Not good I knew but how bad was the question

Supps - I dont do H&B at all, too many additives in theirs, another good reason for using food whenever possible.

Like you its easier for me to order online and I got my last lot of D3 from iHerb thanks to you! Have my own code now - UCI014 for a $5 discount on first orders Have been passing on the info complete with warnings about less than 18 orders and customs charges! As a Scot Im naturally a miser too;-) Didnt know VAT was going up is that going to affect what we pay at iherb? Surely not?

Going to have to check out the K2 choices and contents, another long haul.

Only if you order more than 18 worth of stuff at one go.
I like the MCT oil and I can't find a cheap UK supply so I have to use IHERB and as its heavy I have to use DHL so I order 4 at a time and so I have to pay VAT + DHL'S 1.25 handling charge.
