Trying to save our car industry? No!

Obama owes the UAW big time and is only paying them back for their undying support. He had to violate years of contract law to do so by giving them a big interest in both Chrysler and GM. But then who cares about law.

A federal takeover of any company is a death knell. Look at Fannie or Freddie, the postal service, AMTRAK or the k-12 education system. They can only survive if they do not have competition. The Brits tried it with their entire car industry and now there are no UK car companies.

Hummer is not a loser. It is doing well everywhere but in the U.S. and probably has a great future. That makes it a great buying opportunity.

Its a looser here cause no one is buying it. Perhaps they will export them?

If we loose our manufacturing base in autos we loose strategic defense capability. This has been long known in the military world.

Since just about all the power of the UAW had been deflated and what remains of the new auto industry is about equal in pay and benefits to foreign auto makers how is it that Obama is paying dues to UAW? please explain that one?
The UAW is in its death throws it seems to me.

Hummer is not a loser overseas since those sales have gone up not down. The Chinese are smart buyers.

The UAW would have lost all its healthcare and defined benefit retirement plans if Obama had not prevented a normal bankruptcy of both Chrysler and GM. The UAW would not have had an ownership position because ownership only goes to secured creditors first and then unsecured thereafter. But Obama stepped in with a pre-arranged bankruptcy that preserved a majority of healthcare and retirement benefits in part by granting the UAW ownership of a major share of the company and cutting out other creditors including those secured.

The UAW thus went from literally nothing to a great deal. They were very satisfied at the expense of creditors who were very unhappy. In fact, the Indiana state retirement funds (one of many creditors) has sued and taken the matter to the Supreme Court in the case of Chrysler. Should have a decision today.

The Supreme Court has ruled to hold up Chrysler's bankruptcy and will likely call for a hearing on the issue.

I listened to the lawyer representing the Indiana pension funds and if he is right, Obama has grossly violated many laws - but then these are extraordinary times and certainly allow Obama to do whatever he decides regardless of any laws. Right? I seem to rememeber Obama criticizing Bush for his interrogation of 9/11 perpetrators as being violation of law and that circumstances did not warrant it. Now we will find out if the Supreme Court will allow gross violations.

The North Koreans have threatened to use nuclear weapons in a merciless response if they are attacked. Do you still believe that attempts should be made to take out their nuclear facilities, etc.?

I really don't think they have the capability to do any kind of merciless attack. If they did we would have already taken their facilities out.

Well, ultimatley, I think no matter what anyone does the system, the auto industry, all is coming down. Ultimately I doubt American currency will be worth 2 cents. Whatever evil takes us to this place is part of the dismantling plan.

The ups a and downs of how it happens... its all very difficult to sort out as lies and deception are everywhere.

As I have said on other threads I am doing what I can to get ready, and have been working towards that goal for over 2 years now.

How right you are, Arrow.

The last time we had double digit inflation I was in the military and had no assets to depreciate. Then, of course, Reagan saved us big time and restored our failing economy and country.

Obama makes Carter look like a piker so we are really in for it this time. I also have been planning for this and ensuring that my family will come out on top no matter what.

This time I have plenty of assets and am challenged to position them to preserve buying power. As companies are encouraged to move overseas or pull back from taking any risks and the government spends us into poverty, our economy, our dollar and employment will be severely damaged. We voted him into office and will get what we deserve. We are now no longer a nation of laws.

We actually spend very little on war compared to other expenditures, IMHO, especially compared to today's spending.

We spend it to keep you and I safe from those who would destroy us or take away our freedoms. If we did not spend it, 9/11 would become a normal occurrence.

But then we are losing our freedom at a fast rate today, it being taken by our own government unchecked by any laws. Even the Supreme Court has refused to check the government when it violates our laws.

Oh I wouldn�t be too sure of that. It only takes a handful people in the correct positions to corrupt the entire system. For example was everyone that worked with Burny Madof (sp?) aware that he was just a con artist?

Or what about the Bilderberger group? A hundred or so of the most influential people in the world that get together each year, at a different location, to decide and plan what our future shall be. One would assume that an event of this type would get all sorts of media coverage but it does not. It would seem that these fine folks don�t like to be in the line light when they are deciding the fate nations and dividing up the world economy amongst themselves.

But seeing as how they control the MSM they have just denied their existence. Finally when their group�s existence could no longer be covered up the story changed to this just a casual group meeting to �discuss� world affairs. Of course there still is no MSM coverage of it and independent reporters and the public are keep blocks away from wherever they are meeting by �armed� guards. Any independent reporter that just takes a picture of these individuals going into the meeting place can get arrested and their camera confiscated.

At the last meeting there were even supposedly a couple F15�s patrolling the air space above the hotel. But hey there is nothing important going on otherwise you would see it on the evening news. Trust us!
