I wonder if you can help me with a couple of questions about honey please?
In my plight for better health and realising that oxygen in the body = good I have read that honey mixed with water increases oxygen in the body. I am learning to like the taste of honey (it isn't my first choice, but I WILL love it in time) would I be able to add a couple of things to make this nicer and more of a drink, for example: lemon / lime / other fruit juice / maybe even mint? Do any of the obvious choices to add things diminish its goodness or change this oxygenating property - does this oxygenating property actually exist?
Is there a particular thing I should look for when buying. I'd like to simply buy this when doing my usual shopping rather than going for some odd brand that I can only buy in one place - is this okay?
- Oh, and a cheeky third question.... is it 100% okay to pop into smoothies along with my coconut oil & fruit etc too?
For a truly healthy drink, mix honey with warm water and apple cider vinegar. All right. I admit it doesn't sound tasty, and it is not. However, in the alternative world of healing, it is superior.

As for the taste - Well... I can drink some of the superior but not so yummy drink, and then have a nice tasty honey drink that is slightly more pallatable.
- There are a few listed there that will be useful to me. I am also just about to try to lose some weight as I am getting married in September and I need to get my backside into gear - maybe this will help.
I am always curious about whether or not a food is acid or alkaline too. I see this is naturally alkalising and I also see Honey is too - whereas in the back of my mind I think I assumed it was possibly acid or neutral.
I see your choices are Raw Honey - are there honey's that you would suggest are really pointless. Would you say Manuka honey is special or a bit of a hype?
Oh... you know, I must be very sad - I don't think I have been so excited for a long time. I am literally shopping online now too.
Apple cider vinegar is predominantly acid, even though its minerals lean toward the alkaline. You'll know this when you taste it. Too much will feel like you are burning your throat.
Congratulations on your wedding. I hope this does not produce much more stress for you.
I think you should not even consider trying to alter your pH. Alkalosis is rare. Acidosis is rare. The body know how to adjust its own pH. It has over 200 redundant processes to do that. When you use too much alkaline or acid, the body will, among many things, produce sodium bicarbonate and carbonic acid to move it back into range. The only time you really should try to overwhelm this process is when you have a disease that can benefit, such as certain kinds of cancers (see my blog at this forum). Even then, the administration of such extremes, such as baking soda or MMS, should be done when digestion of food is not required and only temporarily.
Manuka honey tastes horrible. I would only use it externally. That is a personal preference. Honey has wonderful enzymes that will heal a wound and actually diminish its scaring. Manuka is great for this.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding BlueSkys! I've been married for over 34 years now to a wonderful man, and I couldn't be happier.
That was an excellent post by jfh, and a good reminder for me to buy some more Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar, I used to take some daily and should have it around.
I've been adding honey to lemon juice in hot water. Lemon juice is also great for alkalizing the body and losing weight. I squirt some daily in my plain seltzer water for added benefits. I see no reason not to add honey to smoothies.
I suggest that you buy raw and unfiltered honey, of course organic is always better than not. I'm presently using Glory Bee Pacific Northwest Blackberry raw honey/unfiltered honey. It has the natural pollens and enzymes for health. I like the dark, rich Manuka honey, but it was too pricey for me to buy more than once, around $18. a jar.
I don't do too much shopping online, but it is exciting to start doing healthier things for yourself, pays off physically and mentally.
Oh - thank you soooo much for the wedding wishes - its all happening in September and losing a stone in weight will just make me look so much better on my wedding day. I stopped smoking a few years ago and extra weight has just crept on... but its not terrible, just something I will benefit from not having for my wedding day. I find 'dieting' is actually quite odd - I tend to eat more :S But instead I would like to try to simply improve my all round diet. I love good food anyway and am not a great fan of junk food so this helps of course.
Anyway - back to your advice of getting Apple cider vinegar to go with my honey.........
I've treated myself to some nice Manuka 10+ honey (Phew!! pretty expensive, but its a one off) and some Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar...
I have decided to just make a jug each day and hope everyone will take a little drink.
In todays I put:
2 teaspoons manuka Honey
1 teasp ordinary honey
2 table spoons Apple Cider Vinegar
couple sprigs fresh mint
1/2 thinly sliced lemon
1/2 thinly sliced lime
I spoon coconut oil
1 teasp goji berries
A little 3,6,9 Oils
Pre boiled water - still warm, and then let it steep.
Is this mix good?
- It was actually very nice.
Just told everyone to have a little now and then... even the odd refresher will be better than nothing.
- I do go on about eating well all the time to everyone and not everyone is interested are they... nevertheless, they all had a little, so not wasted - I'm just drinking the last of it now
Is it necessary to make fresh every day do you think? Or could I add to it for say 24 - 36 hours then make fresh again? I prefer it warmer rather than cold so I didn't have it in the fridge either today.
I also started some probiotics todays - hope they help too.
I will still take my barley grass when I remember - but thought I'd try this new suggestion for a few days before i do to see how I feel.
Thanks for all the input - I didn't realise I could get so excited about buying a bottle of vinegar and a jar of honey - life is simple really isn't it
Sounds good to me, don't see why you couldn't have it around for a few days. My personal preference would be to eliminate the mint (just don't like mint), increase the coconut oil to 2+ spoons and leave out the 3,6,9 oil. Not sure what kind of oil you mean there, I take Omega 3 fish oil, but wouldn't want it in a drink like that .
When you are buying your honey, try to get it from locally owned bee keepers... If you have hayfever and allergy issues, the locally grown honey and bee pollen will help fix those issues... Also, locally grown means that you are helping your local farmer.

I agree about the locally owned bee keeper honey. I buy 2 jars per summer at my outdoor farmer's market.
You might wish to check out IHerb.com for the vinegar....they carry Braggs & others with the mothering.
Reasonably priced & free shipping w/a $49.00 or more order. I bought 3 bottles my last order.
IHerb carries all kinds of goodies plus you can also see what other customers think about brands, etc.
Congrats on your September wedding!
Sorry, I mean Vitacost.com for the free shipping, etc.
