Default Can Red Wine make you lose weight?

My mother was telling me she was watching Dr. Oz two days ago and that he went over 5 things you should do to loose weight and to my suprise one of them she told me was drinking one glass of red wine a day. So I googled and found his article and a few others, which seems crazy to me that drinking a glass of red wine every day for dinner would actually not make you gain weight, but actually make you lose weight?

The explanation I read was something about it relaxing you, lowering stress typically equals less bodyfat and that thinning the blood creates an improvement to your body weight. Is it just crazy to think consuming an extra 80-120 calories of dry red wine can actually make you loose weight?

I've read a million times how red wine is good for you many ways, but I just still have a hard time with it helping to loose weight?

I was talking to a coworker about it and he told me that his friend started to drink half a glass of redwine and that was the only thing he changed in his diet and after 3 months he said he lost 10 pounds and didn't do anything different.

I found this online

Studies find that people who drink wine daily have lower body mass than those who indulge occasionally; moderate wine drinkers have narrower waists and less abdominal fat than people who drink liquor. Alcohol may encourage your body to burn extra calories for as long as 90 minutes after you down a glass.

I do like a regular glass or more of red wine so I'm particularly keen to read anything the supports drinking red wine.
I think the key to weight loss it to stop eating those foods that promote hunger, and encourage lethargy. So following the ideas set out here is a good start.
The Food Revolution - AHS 2011 - YouTube

There are a couple of reasons why a little regular red wine may be useful to support this plan. The first is MELATONIN that's in the red wine. There is very good reason to believe that the root of obesity problems is dsyfuncitonal mitochondria The Role of Impaired Mitochondrial Lipid Oxidation in Obesity and as red wine is a good source of melatonin it could be useful in helping to restore mitochondrial function. Mitochondrial function enables us to have the flexibility to swap between glucose and fat ketone burning. If your body isn't used to burning the calories stored in fat tissue you get starving hungry when the blood glucose levels drop. If your body automatically swaps fuels when the glucose runs low you don't get hungry and therefore don't need feeding as often. The fewer times you eat the longer your body is able to burn fat so more calories from storage are disposed of.

The other thing in red wine that could be helpful is resveratrol. I've explained in the past how having an inflammatory state in the digestive tract enables inflammatory gut flora to survive and these are the type that are associated with obesity. Having a lower inflammatory status enables the lean type gut flora to predominate therefore they absorb fewer calories from the food ingested and tend to promote activity rather than fat storage.

We have to remember though the calorie content of red wine and it's palatability that encourages overconsumption. (well that's my story) so if you can limit the intake and enjoy a regular glass I'm sure it does you good. One of the problems with strict dieting is that it raises cortisol levels, Cortisol is a glucocorticoid and glucocorticoids side effects are increase in appetite, weight gain, insomnia, fluid retention, and mood changes, such as feeling irritable, or anxious. So staying relaxed and calm, lowers cortisol, lowers inflammatory status and promotes the circumstances that lead to weight loss.
