There's one in London I went into by accident thinking it was a wholefood shop. I realised my mistake pretty fast.

Unfortunately, a lot of the products whole foods carry is pretty much as bad as conventional stores. A year or two ago, I bought a cupcake from their bakery thinking-assuming--it was homemade. Nope, the same garbage you would find at a regular store. They carry tons of veggie oils, chips, and processed foods.

Yet, I find great stuff there all the time. Its the best place to get grass fed meats and my produce. We have the biggest whole foods on the east coast and I want to stay in the area simply because of whole foods

Whole foods is sly. You have to look very carefully, but canola oil is a biggie. Only once have I seen trans fats. People on this board should be able to dissect the bullshit, but many in the states will not. ALWAYS look at the produce to make sure it says organic. The terms they use for non organic are "conventional" and "fresh from the fields". Also, beware of the following:

1) Hippies grazing (coming in for the free samples).
2) Yuppie wannabes all over the place
3) Serious snobs

I always make it a major point to be polite to the workers there after the demandingness of jerk clientele who think they are high society.

My Whole foods recommendations: Sometimes they get some great organic fruits. Organic chicken and grass fed beef are reasonably priced. The seafood is way way way overpriced and like their other stuff, they do sell some farm raised seafood. Stay away from fish oil, supplements etc, you can get them much cheaper on iherb.com.

True story: a buddy and I were at the Pittsburgh Whole Foods and this lady bumps into him and apologies in spanish and then said "sorry, I thought I was still in Costa Rica"

I am 50 going on 21. I go up to Kent State once a month to drink and hang out. My best friend shows me this article in one of the city magazines about a rock group called the black keys. They tried to stay in the area and pump it up but eventually said no more to the cleveland akron area, you have to drive an hour just to get to the whole foods.

Amazing how many whole foods tend to be the cultural centers of communities.
