\nFor at least a century, certainly before the mid 60s, the USA soldiers ate bacon daily. At least this occurred while they were posted at stable forts. Pork belly commodity futures was huge business. Any state where there were/are hog farms will have corn as their most major crop.

\nThe most delicious ham in the world, IMO, Virginia ham, is great because the hogs are fed exclusively peanuts. Makes it slightly expensive too.\r\n

Then there is a big issue with antibiotics, (fed to animals to promote weight gain) then there is the matter of fungi contaminated GMO feed, which is another bad combination, and then there are the nitrates and nitrites that are added to the processed meat so it can sit on the shelf for a month without rotting.
