Sensitivity to screens and fluorescent light

\r\n \r\n My eyes are also very sensitive to fluorescent lights and bright computer screens. Luckily I don\'t spend too much time around either. No brain fog, but I do find myself squinting and experiencing eye strain.

\nMany people are affected by these types of lights, some flashing lights coming from TVs and movies have actually caused seizures in some.

\nI also use lutein or bilberry for my eyes, but I don\'t think it helps with that kind of artificial lighting. They say not to place your computer by a window so you can also see outside, because the sunlight surrounding the screen with make it worse for your eyes.\r\n

\nI\'ve been under flurocescent lights that have taken me right down to the ground because they interfered with my brain waves.\r\n

\r\n \r\n It\'s fairly common to have such a problem with computer screens. I\'ve worked with computers for decades and have witnessed this effect in coworkers. Thankfully not me. You can do an online search for "computer eyeglasses" or "computer glasses". Some have a pinkish tint and some have anti-glare coatings. They don\'t have to correct your vision, just filter light. You can even check with an optometrist.

\nFluorescent light is evil, IMO. I worked in such an environment for decades as well. And with absolutely no natural light. Computer rooms typically have no windows for security reasons. I don\'t know what to tell you to do to remedy that, but if you can, try to sit close to a window so you get some natural light to go along with the fluorescence. I\'m pretty sure that it is the wavelength of the fluorescent lights. Many offices are using "daylight" fluorescent that has a more full spectrum of light emission.

\nFluorescent light bulbs contain mercury, so dispose of them properly so as to not affect the environment. I noticed that one popular hardware store, Home Depot, has a disposal bin for them. Maybe others do too.\r\n

\r\n \r\n Thanks for the feedback... I really think this issue is going to be getting more attention as more places switch over to fluorescent lights and more people start having issues with them. I think the main factor is either flicker, which regular bulbs don\'t have, or the way they\'ve messed with the light spectrum. Jeez, I don\'t know, but I sure hope someone figures it out since it\'s causing issues for many people!\r\n

Actually LED is much cheaper now... Florescent turns out to be more expensive.. Although LED is more expensive to buy at first.... So, I guess if you are dealing with short sighted companies that care about immediate costs, they would probably buy Florescent lights....\r\n

Hi all,

I have this really weird problem with computer and TV screens as well as fluorescent lights, and I am wondering if anyone has ever heard of anything similar or has some idea of what to do. Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated!!

I have actually had this problem all my life, but it has gotten much worse over the past few years, to the point that it is severely disupting my daily routine. Basically,when I use a computer or watch TV for a few hours, I get extreme discomfort (burning sensation) in my eyes and a weird feeling throughout my whole temple and forehead area that I can only describe as "brain fog." This seems to be more in the left side than the right. This can also be set off by fluorescent lights used in certain stores - invariably, whenever I get that feeling, I look up and see uncovered fluorescent bulbs on the ceiling, so the connection is clear.

The most disturbing part is that this problem used to go away within a day or so after I stopped using the computer or TV, but after working a job where I sat at the computer all day for the past couple years, the problem no longer goes away. I spend all day in the "brain fog" state, which is unpleasant to say the least. I have already stopped using screens almost completely out of necessity.

I intuitively feel that this issue is related to excess stress, but I don't know how to deal with that right away and I'm frankly scared about the physical symptoms. I'm taking lutein, zeaxanthin, and bilberry for eye health but this doesn't seem to help at all. I have been eating a very healthy diet and I'm feeling good otherwise, but still this problem persists.

Any bright ideas?? I'm not even going to try going to a regular doctor about this... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
