According to research, the best alternative remedy for tinnitus is essiac.

Essiac is generally used as a cancer treatment, but has been noted to cure type 2 diabetes, as well as tinnitus in patients.

Thank you happy2behere for the very useful links.

I wonder if anyone has recovered from "permanent" ototoxic induced tinnitus? I was on ABX for months for another issue and while on them I developed a high pitched tinnitus which I still have 2 months later. Needless to say I'm off the ABX. Can't say for sure it was them but I've had my ears checked they are all healthy and hearing is perfect, so no other reason can be found.. ENT said most likely ototoxic and just to live with it.

If anyone has had experience with this I'd love to hear about it. How long it lasted for you, and natural remedies that worked, any techniques you would suggest etc.

It's high pitched and keeps me awake at night and generally bothers the hell out of me

Thanks Donee.. unfortunately all the supplements that these so called 'formulas' contain I have already been on for 12+ weeks:
- gingko biloba
- zinc
- garlic
- B12

Absolutely no resolution of symptoms...

I might try the CoQ10 and essiac routes. Does anyone know if the essiac pills would be a decent substitute for essiac tea?

Anyone have any other ideas?

Default Hearing loss

I lost much (almost all) of my hearing above about 2 kilohertz
during WW2 -- gunfire really tears up the hearing mechanisms
hair cells. Think of it this way: Anything that makes your ears
ring has done some degree of permanent damage--lots of ways
to lose hearing and--for some strange reason--tinnitus seems
to be a side effect of the loss.

I gave up on any thoughts of eliminating it years ago. However
I keep reading of ways to help . . . that never seem to help.

Most recently a Life Extension magazine had an article on the
benefits of Taurine. Page 42 of the June issue says in part:
Taurine plays a vital role in hearing. Studies have shown that
Taurine can almost completely eliminate ringing in the ears.

Ive been adding taurine for a week now. I'll let U know in a
few months whether it has had any effect on me LOL

I'm NOT holding my breath.

I have tinnitus which hasn't resolved yet but I think with perseverance there's got to be a clearing, a healing. I tried Essaic for a month by making the tea but it need more time. Time to start it up again.

There is fluid in one of my ears that isn't getting cleared out. I'll try some warm-moist packs or mullein/garlic oil at night for a while.

Donee & Mommysunshine, thanks for the input.

I also want to persevere and tackle this thing, go down every possible path before giving into it. So I will report any progress here.

I suppose all tinnitus is different. Mine is almost certainly ABX ototoxic induced. Would love to hear from anyone who has had similar.

Funny thing is I had a full hearing test via ENT and my hearing is 100%. So no hearing loss whatsoever.

I am starting to research the nervous system aspects of tinnitus which if my case involves nerve damage from the ABX it may ultimately prove permanent. But I have also heard of retraining paths in the brain around damaged nerves so who knows.

Mommysunshine - how much time have you heard Essaic would need to be taken for? Have you looked at the essaic pills as opposed to the tea?

Here's what happened to me. I've had tinnitus since God was a babe. Last summer for no reason at all I started taking one morning capsule full of MMS2, the stuff you can get at a swimming pool supply. Now out of the blue not a peep of a ring and I don't know when that all happened.

I like the idea that the body can repair itself if given the right environment. If you find more info. on that please share.

Essiac is suppose to be a wonderful all-over detoxifier. It saved 1,000's of patients who were under the care of Renee Caisse after the medical doctors claimed they were hopeless. It helps clean the blood. I did look into the pills but didn't like the fillers and Flor Essence which is Essaic is so pricey at $40 for an 18 day supply. On one hand you'll pay whatever it takes, right?, to feel good but on the other hand would other things work as well like warm lemon water or aloe vera on a regular basis. I don't know. You can buy a pound of essaic tea mix for $30 which will last several months.

Do you have any crackling in your ears when you swallow? I do and suspect there is an infection there. Currently I'm taking apple cider vinegar and that seems to be making my ear ache a little. May be a good or bad sign. lol

Hope we can get relief soon.

I did find one much cheaper one by Herbs Etc. $40 for 60 days. Appears not to have any fillers, but I wonder if the dosage (200mg x 2 = 400mg) is sufficient:

Proprietary Blend: Alcohol free concentrated extracts of: Burdock root, Sheep Sorrel herb, Slippery Elm inner bark and Chinese (Turkish) Rhubarb root 200 mg

I do, and was told by the ENT that this is the Eustachian tubes opening/closing. To be honest I can't remember if I ALWAYS had the crackling or if it came up with the tinnitus. I wonder if anyone can comment on whether they have crackling every time they swallow? The crackling doesn't bother me in the slightest and if I forget about it it's never there.

My tinnitus is probably ototoxic induced. Absolutely no infection present. I was on so many vile antibiotics for so long that I wonder if I'll ever get my clean bill of health back.. anyway gotta push on and look for an answer.

I did read some promising research being undertaken on vagus nerve stimulation (hope is on the way!):

https://www.ata.org/sites/ata.org/fil...%20'12.pdf

Quote:
This is exciting news because there is strong evidence that tinnitus is induced by persistent changes to the central nervous system (neural plasticity). The problem is that it is difficult to induce persistent changes that undo the self perpetuating neurological circuit that creates the tinnitus tone. The solution then, is to find a mechanism that increases the plasticity (how easy it is to change) of the central nervous system, and disrupt the neuronal organization that causes tinnitus. This may be that mechanism.

I've read some testimonials suggesting that MMS2 can help with candida. Perhaps you had a candida infection?

Going through your post history it sure looks like you've had success with MMS across a whole bunch of problems.. tooth aches, infected wounds, tinnitus.. can't help but think of Futurama's 'miracle cream'

Ok, as a side note I just did some basic research on MMS and that is some nasty stuff!

Quote:
The product, when used as directed, produces an industrial bleach that can cause serious harm to health. The product instructs consumers to mix the 28 percent sodium chlorite solution with an acid such as citrus juice. This mixture produces chlorine dioxide, a potent bleach used for stripping textiles and industrial water treatment. High oral doses of this bleach, such as those recommended in the labeling, can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and symptoms of severe dehydration
Who would possibly risk taking this stuff??
