I have been suffering from lower abdominal pain for about 2 years now, & it has progressively got worse over this time.
An ultrasound scan in 2010 revealed a 1.9cm cyst on my left ovary, but was told this would go away by itself. A couple of months later, after a second scan, it did go away.
Although my abdominal problems started without warning in early 2009, so are not related to the cyst.
It has now got to the point where the pain takes up most hours of the day now, & changes from long, heavy/dull aching pains, to very sharp/stabbing or 'tearing' pains, of which the latter is now a daily problem. At its worst, the sharp pain continues up the left side of my abdomen to the left side of my stomach.
Sometimes when I go out or are at work, the pains come so fast & without warning, I have to stop what I am doing through no choice, as the severe pains resrict my movement for up to 15 mins at a time.
I havn't been back to the doctor's about it, as I worry they will not find anything wrong, & that I'll have to suffer indefinatly. What worries me, is that the pains & discomfort have recently become quickly agressive, & show no signs of going away. I have tried all different painkillers, including Ibuprofen, but they don't even touch the severe pain. I no longer take anything for it.
Any professional advice on what it could be would be very much appreciated.
I am an experimenter by nature, so this is what I would do, if you are not going to seek a professional diagnosis, which may help.
The suddenness of the pain is worrisome, as this may mean it may not be directly pathogen related. But, different people react differently to pathogens so it is not a lock.
I would try some MMS, at a very low dose. One or two drops. If it helps, then you will have a good idea if it is a pathogen causing the problem. H-Pylori comes to mind, but there are other less common ones that can cause pain.
If this does not help, I would get an endoscopy, which would be a good idea in any case. Sometimes you need a firm diagnosis to know how to proceed, and it could be a more serious problem. There is no way to know without "taking a look".
Iodine, may be a good treatment to try also, since you have a history of cysts. It kills some pathogens also. Arrowwind knows a lot about this.
Abdominal pain that cannot be alleviated by painkillers need a doctors attention. I wouldnt play around with those symptoms until something serious had been ruled out.
i have just come across this page and have to say that i experience the same pain and have for years. I have recently been to the hospital with the hope of having a hysterectomy, but because they cannot find any valid reason (eg. cancer, huge ovarian cysts) to remove. My pain can be controlled by painkillers (according to the medical community). I know better and they will not honour my request to remove. This pain affects my quality of life and also affects my work.
If there is anyone there that can assist, I would really like to remove this pain for good.
Sara1983 .... I went through a similar issue this year. What I found out is that I have pelvic congestive syndrome, which really means that they have no clue.
I have had two sonograms and no diagnosis... not even a guess or clue, and cost me a ton of money, until I went to Mexico with a lot of pain and visited a gynecologist in Mazatlan. My main concern was to rule out cancer... No cancer found either in the US or Mexico.
After a lot of discussion it was determined that some fairly minor vericose veins found in the pelvis that US docs didn't think would be causing this issue, is likely what is causing this issue. The Mexican doctor and I decided that we would try a treatment and if I responded then we might be safe in assuming it is vericose veins. ... he also thought that there was a possibility that this vericose vein, when swollen could be "rubbing" on a nerve, and hence greater pain than expected from a vericose vein.
I was given a pain pill called..... Dolo-Neurobion since tylenol and ibuprofen did not help one bit.. and a narcotic was out of the question.
I was also given a micronized bioflavinoid called Daflon. The doctor says that in Mexico almost all their cardiac and vascular patients get this pill because it strengthens the vascular walls of the vessels.
This combo worked really well for me.. I have minimal pain now and when it starts to increase I start taking the Dalfon again. There are numerous studies on pub med for this product and its effects on the vascular system.
both products can be found on line. I rarely use the pain pill as I am suspicious of it.. it is made by Merck.. who made the infamous Vioxx.... but it works to alleviate pain like a charm.
He recommended gabapenton (neurontin) if the pain continued, but again, I would have to be near dying before I took that drug. This is prescription only.
Just want to note here that there are two products called Dolo Neurobion. One is made with paracetol which is tylenol and the other is made with voltaren or also called (Diclofenac Sodium) and it the product which I used.
There is increased stroke risk with Diclofenac, people with high BP and diabetes should be careful and take the lowest effective dose for shortest possible time.
Yes, most drugs have inceased risks for one thing or another, especially you are not in very good shape in the first place....
The thing with this drug is that it decreases the inflammation so well you only need it for a short period of time. It can also cause stomach issues like ibuprofen does. The thing is ibuprofen does not work for lots of different pains or you just have to keep taking it forever which is not good either. I took probably 800mg of ibuprofen a day for 3 months and barely got nowhere. With voltaren, in two weeks the pain was gone. 5 months later I have used only about 6 pills.
Many people died from using vioxx. Studies indicated that if you took it for over 1.5 years thats when the risk went high and people got into trouble. They should never have taken off of the market in my opinion but saved it for certain types of uses. For instance I had a patient with debilitating arthritic pain where other meds did not help. When vioxx came out she became pain free on 12.5mg every other day. That was, half a dose of the usual 25mg tablet every other day. She spent the last 3 years of her life pain free. Some people took 25 to 50mg daily, sometimes more.
Its a difficult call when contending with pain... especially if you don't want to use narcotics which have their own downfalls.
The pain of pelvic congestion is unrelenting in many women and severely affects the quality of life. Daflon used with the mediciation seems to have helped keep the inflammation and pain from returning
Naproxen, what is recommended in the article as a substitue, will eat a hole in your gut pretty quickly especially for the elderly.
