Here are two reply's that I received for my following email.

Please vote NO on the upcoming power grab by the FDA to require all health supplements be proven safe. No further testing is needed as these dietary supplements have already been proven safe by many years of actually use!
In reality they are virtually free from any serious side effects whereas the side effects from the fully tested prescription drugs can and do kill thousands each year.
Thank you for contacting me regarding the Dietary Supplement Labeling Act of 2011 (S. 1310). I appreciate hearing from you.
On June 30, 2011, I introduced the Dietary Supplement Labeling Act (S. 1310), which would require dietary supplement manufactures to register products with the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It would require that product labels include warnings associated with adverse events of specific ingredients, weight of those ingredients per serving, and a batch number for easier recall. S. 1310 would also direct the FDA to establish a definition of conventional food to clarify the distinction between food and beverage products with additives and dietary supplements.
Most dietary supplements available today are safe and can be part of a healthy lifestyle, but there are few federal requirements for informing consumers of the risks of certain ingredients. Further, many food and beverage products containing unapproved food additives are being sold as dietary supplements to take advantage of the more relaxed regulatory environment for supplements, as compared to foods. This legislation would ensure that consumers have the information they need to distinguish between products that are safe and others that contain potentially dangerous ingredients which havent been approved by the FDA. S. 1310 would improve the information available to consumers and curb the prevalence of drinks and foods that are masquerading as dietary supplements as a means of avoiding reviews and regulations by the FDA.
I have heard from constituents who wonder why Congress is considering additional legislation when most dietary supplements are perfectly safe and may be beneficial. Sadly, some manufacturers do not put the safety of their customers first. Reputable manufacturers with safe products have nothing to hide. I recognize that we disagree on this issue, but I appreciate knowing your thoughts on it.
S. 1310, has been referred to the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee. I am not a member of this Committee but will keep your views in mind in case this issue comes to the Senate floor.
Thank you again for your message. Please feel free to contact me on matters of importance to you.
Sincerely,
Richard J. Durbin
United States Senator
Thank you for contacting me regarding the regulatory role the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has on dietary supplements. I appreciate your thoughts on this important issue.
As you may know, the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA) exempts dietary supplements from the same pre-market approval process that drugs, medical devices, and food additives must undergo before they are allowed to be sold. As a general rule, manufacturers are neither required to register their products with the FDA nor get approval prior to producing or selling the product. However, the manufacturer must ensure the product label is not either false or misleading. As a result, the FDA must demonstrate that dietary supplements cause harm before they can be removed from the marketplace.
On June 30, 2011, Senator Durbin (D-IL) introduced S. 1310, the Dietary Supplement Labeling Act of 2011. This bill would amend the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act by requiring manufacturers of dietary supplements to register a description, list all ingredients and provide a copy of all labels of the product. There is a need for oversight to guarantee the integrity of the health products being sold. However, it is essential for Congress to find a balance between the need for safety and access to health supplements.
While I understand your concern regarding the FDA's ability to regulate dietary supplements, I believe the FDA must ensure the safety of products made available to the public. Currently, the Dietary Supplement Labeling Act of 2011 has been referred to the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions where it awaits further action. Rest assured, I will continue to monitor this issue with your thoughts in mind.
Thank you for taking the time to contact me on this issue. Please feel free to contact me at (312) 886-3506 or online at https://kirk.senate.gov if you have any questions or concerns before Congress or the federal government. It is an honor to serve you in the Senate.
Dietary supplements in the US are going to come under control of a regulatary body(The Trilateral Cooperation Charter TCC), that will impose common legislation in US,Mexico and Canada. The FDA is trying to bring legislation in line with existing guidelines of Mexico and Canada who regard dietary supplements as drugs.
If US citizens dont wake up and fight this tooth and nail they will lose their
rights to choose which supplements they have access too forever.
Or they do get it, and want continuing support from the pharmaceutical companies.
This had absolutely nothing to do with the safety of the people of America. If it did have to do with safety, pharmaceuticals would be banned. The people were unable to stop such a thing in Europe.

Of course not. It is all about control of the people. I just ran across this article, it is not about pills but rather food, still the end goal is the same. Just trust the government it knows what is best for you.
Oh for goodness sake! What's next? No block parties? How about pot lucks? After all, you don't know of the hygiene of the kitchens of the participants. Next we will be burning books.
The absolute irony about this whole situation is that the FDA have passed food additives that are unsafe and toxic. Aspartame (Nutrasweet) for example is found in so many foods and drinks and is believed to be responsible for many deaths and serious illnesses.
This is becoming a crazy, upside down world where anything good is being demonized and restricted and anything bad and injurious to the public health is kept on the supermarket shelves despite the campaigns and data about it ill effects.
I have an affidavit from Norma Vera, a translator who translated Searle's studies done in 6 countries that showed aspartame destroys the brain, triggers brain tumors and seizures. hardens the synovial fluids and more.
But then, I think that there is, in this modern day and age little excuse for ignorance.
