I understand that cells and hormones cannot be created without cholesterol. If I absolutely had to take a statin drug due to inheritance or gene problem, I would take a an intestinal cholesterol sequestering agent, instead of one that is metabolized by the liver. But first I would try serrapeptase and nattokinase. But the point is that the liver has enough work to do, and problems occur when drugs force the liver to do things that it should do naturally.
