Default Killing Germs - Regular Soap & Water Work Best

Quote:
In the first known comprehensive analysis of whether antibacterial soaps work better than plain soaps, Allison Aiello of the U-M School of Public Health and her team found that washing hands with an antibacterial soap was no more effective in preventing infectious illness than plain soap.

Moreover, antibacterial soaps at formulations sold to the public do not remove any more bacteria from the hands during washing than plain soaps.

Speaking of killing germs what makes a healthier cutting board for the kitchen. A piece of hard plastic or a piece of wood from and old oak tree?

The wood from an oak tree is healthier; it contains tannic acid, a natural antibacterial that is continually killing germs. However if you are a germ plastic is a much more friendly environment.

I watched Discovery Health and they agree with you Mad, a wood (any wood) cutting board has natural germ resistance.

They also said that rubbing your hands together vigorously kills the germs, and so when you are not near soap and water they recommend rubbing your hands on your jeans.

They also said that anti-bacterial soaps are bad for you, they cause infections because they kill too many germs, we need some to keep us clean.
