\nDaughter, straight out of college, landed a great position in a construction firm in Chicago that sends their people all over USA to head jobs. Big ass jobs. Taking the energy from it\'s source and routing it to where it needs to go.
\n
\nBe it power lines or whatever.
\n
\nShe first said yes to CA. That one fell thru. Then YES to NJ. That one is barely limping along. Then came TEXAS - how could she say no? There is a company car with gas card, cell phone, computer, salary AND cost of living per diem.

\nI found her a one bedroom and she somehow got me to agree to come out in November with the dogs and some furniture and ME
\n
\nThere is FRACKING and DRILLING and TUMBLEWEEDS and HOT and DRY and SAND and did I mention fracking???!!?? Do they have little birds? Trees? Streams? Lakes? Anything but dirt? Will I need to bring face masks to breathe? I am sending her with air cleaner and a HUGE BERKEY water filtration. Impending doomyish feelings seeeping in.

\r\n \r\n There\'s going to be a lot more jobs like that with the proliferation of fracking for oil and that abomination, the Keystone Pipeline.

\nThe Austin metro area continues to generate many new jobs. Recently Formula 1 racing is moving here. Lots of jobs, lots of income, lots of rich people. The problem is water. The Lake Travis is only 43% full. Austin is on water restriction policy, pretty severe. Yet more people are moving here for jobs and even retirement. This area reminds me of what I think the Nile river area was in the time of Egypt\'s glory.

\r\n \r\n When I first moved to the Austin TX area (2007), there was a sleet storm. It lasted for 3 days on the roads. All of Austin closed down. The only news was that some guy took a picture of an icicle hanging from his gutter. Dallas / Fort Worth gets all the nasty weather, even in the summer. Even as far south as Waco.

\nThe last 2 winters have been so mild. It\'s not cold enough to freeze the insects. Not cold enough to cover the outside pipes.\r\n

\n I am a bit excited. Can\'t wait to see the floor plan (for now it is a 2 bd) - it will be different moving from a house to an apartment. What to bring? Do air mattresses and take the "extra" small dressers I have acquired and use for storage? Or go for the real deal and move the entire rooms? The dining room table/side board or the little bistro set downstairs *that is basically decoration? Grab the living room furn or buy small movable pieces once there?

Default Moving to Texas - super fund site O.M.G.
Is this one of the dumbest things?

Daughter, straight out of college, landed a great position in a construction firm in Chicago that sends their people all over USA to head jobs. Big ass jobs. Taking the energy from it's source and routing it to where it needs to go.

Be it power lines or whatever.

She first said yes to CA. That one fell thru. Then YES to NJ. That one is barely limping along. Then came TEXAS - how could she say no? There is a company car with gas card, cell phone, computer, salary AND cost of living per diem.

I found her a one bedroom and she somehow got me to agree to come out in November with the dogs and some furniture and ME

There is FRACKING and DRILLING and TUMBLEWEEDS and HOT and DRY and SAND and did I mention fracking???!!?? Do they have little birds? Trees? Streams? Lakes? Anything but dirt? Will I need to bring face masks to breathe? I am sending her with air cleaner and a HUGE BERKEY water filtration. Impending doomyish feelings seeeping in.
