Preventing varicose veins
Like all things, prevention is better than cure, and if you are concerned about varicose veins you should:
* Keep active. If your work means you have to stand for long periods, fidget!
Just rocking back and forward on your heels will get the calf muscle pumping and help keep blood flowing back to your heart.
* Lose weight, if you are carrying excess pounds.
* If you smoke, give up now.
* Wear support tights.
* Consider taking red vine leaf extract, which is a herbal remedy that promotes healthy veins and capillaries

The dried aqueous extract of standardised red vine leaves (AS 195) is a food supplement available in capsules. Red vine leaf extract has been available in France for the treatment of symptoms associated with venous insufficiency. In the UK it is sold as a dietary supplement for the maintenance of healthy leg-vein circulation, in particular to avoid tired, heavy and aching legs that result from long periods of standing or sitting.
The extract contains a number of bioflavonoids including flavone/flavonol glycosides and glucuronides, in particular quercetin-3-O-b-D-glucuronide, isoquercitrin and kaempferol-3-glucoside. It is registered as an over-the-counter medicine in several European countries.

Herbs, like horse chestnut and ginko biloba, have been used for vein support.

The herb gotu kola, has shown impressive clinical results in treating both varicose veins and varicose ulcers by improving circulation in the lower limbs and stimulating connective tissue repair.
Try 500 mg twice daily

Vitamin E relieves varicose vein inflammation (phlebitis) and helps to prevent it. You will find it in wholegrain cereals, soya beans, wheatgerm and its oil, egg yolks, cold pressed vegetable oil, spinach and other green leafy vegetables...
You can also apply pure vitamin E oil or cream directly to inflammed veins, varicose eczema and varicose ulcers

Oh, now that's an interesting tidbit of info.
The varicose veins behind my knees get inflammed if I'm stuck standing in basically one spot for most of the day. Thanx!

I don't really have any more room in my kitchen cabinet for yet another supplement. By the time I take my supplements, there is no room for lunch. Yet, this gotu kola could be worth a try. If it does that, it might also help hemorrhoids. Nothing else has. Nothing. Also, I wonder if it can help spider veins in my feet. OK. Worth a try.

That's what I'm afraid of. Currently, I would have to drive 1 1/2 hour to the closest location, and pay about $500. With my luck, it would not work the first time, and a return visit would be needed.
I think it is not IRC according to this description.

The Ultroid Hemorrhoid Management System delivers a very low direct current to the hemorrhoid, causing a reaction in the hemorrhoid. Although some people experience immediate relief, the hemorrhoid shrinks over the next 7-10 days. There is no need for bowel preparation, anesthesia or surgery. And there is no healing time because there is no cutting: you leave the doctors office and resume your normal activities.
|
So often, supplement vendors will say that hemorrhoids are really varicose veins. That's why I mentioned this in this thread. I'm not buying that description though.

I still wonder if it's not a similar treatment. Cost or convenience wasn't a factor in my decision to discontinue treatment, a $15 copay and a 20 min. drive. I doubt if there's ever a case where a return visit (or visits) wasn't required.
