Default Improving Memory with Nutrition

Yes, Sally B,

I've been working on this one for a while. Last year I felt like I did a terrible decline. My typing is bad but never so bad as last summer and I couldn't remember names of people I knew well when I was under stress as I often am at work. That's when I started to explore brain nutrients.

There are two books that actually were recommended to me from a past forum, not recently past though.

"Brain Longevity" by Dharma Singh Khalsa MD

and "Smart Drugs and Nutrients" by Ward Dean MD and John Morgenthaler

They are both good reads but I prefer the first. Khalsa brings a balanced approach. Memory loss and dementia is his main practice. Bought them used on Amazon.

After reading them I started on DMAE and did this for about 5 months and have now slacked off it for the last 3.

I take GH-3 (Gerovital)

I increased my B vitamins, especially B12

Liquid Lecithin from NOW products. I noticed the greatest change when I started this. I put it in my morning smoothies about 3 times a week.

Fish Oil Caps.

When my CoQ10 runs out I will start Idbenone, reported to be more effective.

I also did a course of serrapeptase to clean out my vessels.

My typing is really good now,( don't go by my posts here. I am not comfortable with my keyboard at home) My memory has improved also. I don't have problems under stress anymore.

I really like these books because it gives a heads up on some of the leading pharmaceuticals to treat severe memory loss and dementia that are not availabe in the US but still can be purchased over the internet.

Thanks, Arrowwind,

Some really good websites. I especially like the James South link. I take CoQ10, but the Idbenone sounds interesting. Will do more reading when I have the time.
I just received an email from www.silvercreeklabs.com Valerie Saxions website, and if you place an order for any one of her products, you get a free bottle of DMAE. I've been meaning to buy some parasite cleanse supplements from her, think I'll do that today! The free DMAE offer is only good for today.

Arrowwind,

You may want to include certain foods into your cognitive-enhancing program as well.

- Personally, I'd include several servings of wild Alaskan salmon a week. W.A.S. is rich in DMAE, DHA & EPA and is also loaded with astaxanthin - a potent carotenoid that may help to protect the brain (among other sites in the body).

- Dr. Mercola also recommends consuming raw egg yolks on a daily basis. He suggests avoids the egg whites.

- Finally, it appears that certain foods like spinach and blueberries may slow mental decline - at least in an animal model. There's no harm and the potential for great benefit by including these common foods.

By the way, it would be ideal to choose organic sources for the eggs (preferably with added omega-3's) and the spinach and blueberries.

Be well,

HH

Welocme Harry Hirsute.
Now that you are here, please can you suggest why some authors advise avoidance of egg whites?
Thanks.

Xania,

The main reason that many health experts advise against eating raw egg whites is because they contain a substance (avidin) that binds to the important nutrient biotin. The concern is that regular consumption of egg whites can lead to a biotin deficiency.

Here's a link that goes into a bit more detail and offers some suggestions about how to best utilize eggs:

Be well,

HH

Thanks Harry. I do almost all of what you suggested. I do eat a lot of eggs. I mean a lot of eggs especially when I'm focused on the Atkins diet which I am again at this time. I will look into biotin supplementation.

also Lookin@U, have you noticed anything particular from using idebenone?

I haven't tried it yet. Just been reading about it.
If anyone wants to read up on it go here.

Default GH-3 (Gerovital)

Arrow...tell me about the GH-3, is there a definite, noticeable difference?
I read about it and really would like to order but I'm taking soooooo many supplements now it is just incredible.

Basically, I think I've got to have everything I read about...but I really am interested in this. Thanks.-Biz

Hi Biztekmom

sorry to taks so long to get back. I don't visit this thread much.

GH3 for me did not have that many effects. Some increase in energy. I stopped using it.

Posters on the other forum found many more excellent results than me. Perhaps because they were older and having more issues. I had hoped it would get rid of age spots on the back of the hands but it did not. It did for them though.

I have quite a stash of the product if you want to try it I can give you a good deal.

Just an additional note on GH3. I have been taking it for five months but have not noticed any change that I would attribute to it. Since I ordered a whole years supply when I ordered, I will finish it out. Will update if I find any improvement.

Default question for Mari

Are you saying that you haven't noticed ANY effect from the GH3 or just not in regard to cognitive-enhancement?

I know some people claim that GH3 helps with skin tone and hair growth/pigmentation, etc.

Harry, It's possible that the "pucker lines" around my mouth have softened. However, I guess the changes I was hoping for were more in the metabolism, energy enhancement area and I have seen none of that.

I would like to get rid of the feeling that I "need a shot of caffine RIGHT NOW."

Arrowwind,

It's been over a year since you posted this. Did you try the Idebenone and, if so, did you have any positive results?
