Question Dog sleeping problems

Our Bichon Frise who is 14 years old is having trouble sleeping through the night. He wakes at around 3:30 am every morning and seems agitated. He starts scratching the carpet and floors and won't settle. Is there something we can give him to help him sleep through the night. Is this a just a symtom of getting old.

Maybe a trip to a vet is in order - it could be aging, but there could be something that can be done about it -

Until you know what could be causing the problem I wouldn't "give" him anything - lots of things are poisonous to animals that are great for us...

Even with people, sometimes as we age we have more trouble sleeping throughout the night, or into the later morning hours as we did when we were younger.

My dogs might scratch at the carpet while turning, in order to find a comfortable spot in which to lie, hopefully that behavior you're seeing is normal.

One supplement you may want to try to relax your Bichon is Magnesium Malate. Magnesium will help settle the nerves, and the Malate form should not cause any loose stools.

Good luck with your pup...
