Kroger Co. has announced a recall of a wide variety of pet food on fears
that the products could contain aflatoxin, a substance produced by certain
fungi that can grow on grains and become incorporated in finished food
products which poses a health risk to pets.

Aflatoxin is a naturally occurring toxic chemical by-product from the growth

of certain fungi on corn and other crops.

The severity of aflatoxin poisoning can vary widely, but people should
consult a veterinarian if their pets exhibit sluggishness combined with a
reluctance to eat, yellowish tint to the eyes and/or gums, and severe or
bloody diarrhea. In severe cases, it can cause extreme liver damage.

Customers who purchased a recalled item should return it to a store for a
refund or replacement. Consumers with questions should contact Kroger at
