I'm starting to think coconut oil has a hundred uses....
fantastic oil
fantastic for cooking and eating
fantastic for cleaning and conditioning your leather
fantastic for moisturizing your skin
fantastic for soap
fantastic for shampoo
Apparently, in Thailand where toothpaste isn't available but bicarb is, the people brush their teeth with the oil, then a little bicardb, and then back to the oil again. I have tried it - it makes your mouth sqeeky clean... I now keep a bottle of coconut oil in the bathroom

I've used coconut oil for oil pulling, and it does make your teeth feel clean and shiny, but I brush afterward. Oil pulling is where you take a small spoon of it and swish it in your mouth through your teeth, then spit out. 20 minutes is recommended, but I have a bad gag reflex, and can only do 5-10.

I make my own toothpaste by mixing 3 tablespoons of coconut oil with 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Works very well with the toothbrush until the winter, when my bathroom is lower than 75F degrees. That's when the coconut oil solidifies pretty hard. It stores well too, as the coconut oil is an antibacterial.
