I don't need it. Mainly because I live in the UK and we don't get much sun or particularly hot sun but also partly because I keep my IRON status low by being a blood donor and using lots of iron chelators anti oxidants like
Astaxanthin (from krill oil or as a separate supplement)
Lycopene and beta carotene
CURCUMIN
resveratrol
Melatonin
green tea If you can't stand drinking green tea (it takes a while to get used to because it kills of the pathogenic gut flora and disposing of dead bacteria makes you feel crap (nauseous) at the start.
both vitamin D and omega 3 add to the effect.
do be aware that it takes 8~12 weeks for these natural anti oxidants to build up sufficient concentration in the skin to make a difference in the time you can stay in sunlight without burning.
You MUST avoid getting sunburnt.
Also I think it's best to use the kitchen sink approach and use as many of these at the same time. They are all working on different aspects of the control of sun damage so work together to raise your natural photoprection.
You may still need the sunblock if you are obliged to stay in the sun for longer than is safe and aren't able to cover up.
