I just recieved my tub of coconut oil today and tried it out frying and stirred it into a cup of herbal tea and thought it was very nice.

I thought that with all these health benefits of coconut oil i would share it with my family. My mother has Angina and thought i better read a bit more into it.....

Having done a thorough search and reading dozens of articles i am a bit confused on what to believe as there is as much negative as positive remarks about coconut oil.

Organic coconut oil is very good and healthy. I personally don't use it for cooking, since I was raised by Greeks who initiated me to use olive oil on everything. Frying is not healthy at all. It produces cancer causing substances like acrylamides, heterocyclic amines, etc.

One of the reasons that coconut oil is a healthy oil is because it has a higher smoking temperature. Here is the smoking point of various healthy oils:
Macadamia nut: 432 degrees
Olive oil: extra virgin 300, virgin 400, light virgin 450
coconut oil: 350
walnut oil: 320

I think frying starts at 350 and beyond, does anyone know? Anyway, when you use an oil past its smoking point, it turns carcinogenic and harmful.

My family has a history of heart problems and i myself suffer from palpitations and irregular heart beats from time to time, i read that ALA could be helpful with this problem.

I also work in a very dirty enviroment working with concrete and read that ALA can be good for your skin.......thats the only reasons i take ALA.

I think you might be right about the Acai because i have never felt any better when taking it but i thought, it is full of all this goodness so must be good for my body.

I will give the tumeric and coconut oil a try, i have checked a few places for coconut oil and it says its great for cooking with......is this the same type of coconut oil?

Cheers.
Hi jpop. For arrythmias fish oil reduces them, also make sure you take some magnesium and eat fresh fruits (low potassium and magnesium can cause arrythmias). For artery health try this stuff
