I remember seeing this a while back... It certainly is amazing how some people seem to be able to defy the aging process.. However, I think it's more genetics than diet and rain water.
I have known many vegans and they all have aged normally, so I would say this is more an exception to the rule.
Although it is true that eating healthy helps to slow down the rate at which our bodies degrade, genetics plays a big role in things too.
I disagree tick, though I don't have any evidence (even anecdotal) to back it up. I just believe diet plays a larger role than genetics. I would throw out a percentage, but it would not be based on any evidence and only my beliefs.
Though, you may be right - there are some people that cannot process food the same and gain weight no matter what they eat.
Diet does play a larger role them genetics, because genes are influenced by diet, environment, exercise, and even your thoughts + emotions.

That's because most vegans still eat a junk food diet. Veganism done right leads to tremendous benefits, like that woman experienced. She is the exception when it comes to vegans (actually doing diet somewhat right), but the rule when it comes to the benefits of a correct vegan diet. Although even her diet could be better, but it's better then the vast majority of people's. The key is to eat fresh food from fertile soil, or even better to eat fresh sprouts (freshest food possible). See this thread for more information.
I vote Yes on genetics from experience. I'm with tick on this. My grandmother was obese, though she did live to 93, born in the late 1800s. All her 4 children were overweight except for my mother. My 2 siblings are overweight, however much they try otherwise. I was classified 4F due to underweight and flat feet. Twice tested for the army, and they finally gave up on me. I'm still underweight, though since retirement, less stress, and more snacks my middle section is getting out of hand. I need to find some way to redistribute that fat to other parts Still underweight. Even my bones are smaller than anyone else in the family. I was so happy when clothing stores started stocking clothes sizes for orientals though I am not.
No matter how much I exercised for bulk in my life and even took some steroids for several months, I was unable to gain weight - muscle or otherwise. I use to backpack through the wilderness mountains as a youth and did not have to take much food. Normally, I could out eat anyone at the table. So my body would accept however much I gave it or not.
Yes. Genetics.

You do have a point JDF and genetics cannot be discounted at all - but as livefoods mentioned, genetics are the result of past diet throughout the generations. So, it's a mix of the 2 (plus environment).
Sounds like JFH has an overactive Thyroid gland. My older brother has that as well.. Always the envy because he could eat a boatload of food over the holidays and nothing.. Not even a bulge...
*sigh....
Lifestyle has a lot to do with it too, but it's just the way the body processes food etc.
Fruit esp. berries, nuts and seeds contain the 'life force' and, to all those interested in the spiritual side of life, they also raise the body's vibrational rate...
Most of my aunts and uncles are dead. With the exception of my grandfather, they all died quite young. Was it because of genetics? I doubt it. They all had the same diet and lifestyle... they smoked and drank, ate margerine and all kinds of deep fried foods... most were overweight, and none believed in regular exercise or supplementing with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Not all, but most were taking several prescription drugs, and all listened to their doctors, following their advice to the letter. Come to think of it, those doctors are all dead as well.
You can appear to be healthy and drop dead from a heart attack, that happens all the time, even to athletes. The lady in the picture appears to look healthy, and may very well be, however you can't see inside her arteries or organs. Hopefully she is getting plenty of nutrients from her garden.
Her husband should be following her example.

As I toss this around in my head I have to give a bit more credit to genetics.
I think genetics play a role in how well your body responds to such a healthy diet. I also think genetics play a role in how badly your body responds to a BAD diet. I.E some people here in the north country live on fried chicken but will make it to their 70's.
