Thanx, I am taking other B complex also due to realising the prescribed ones did not contain all B vits, I was originally managing to get the Seven Seas natural B ones via prescription, but the chemist complained, something due to ordering them, also I did suspect it could have been prnicious anemia in the past so I bought some yellow dock, my condition greatly improved, but I had some gut feeling regards this herb to be careful with it for some reason, but I think I will try another course of the tea.

Really my style of drinking over the years should be a good contender for liver damage eg Many types of alcohol used and many small periods of abstainence from large amounts, I took liver detox tea regular though and my liver tests have shown up to be nothing wrong at all, I told my doctor i was using the tea after she informed me of my liver test results ' Oh , I would recommend you not use that' she said matter of factly, 'Yes but in theory I should have liver problems I said, so it could be due to the detox tea' she said she thought I was making this up.

Also I post from UK seems like mostly American posters here, I was wondering also is it worth trying to get a brain scan as this could show up any damage already there and then hopefully get something done, reading this stuff regards anaemia frightens me to death, also besides the attacks it has had an effect on my thinking, was reading about dementia recently and can relate to aspects of that.

The reference range in the B12 test is usually between 130/700 ng/L. Ideally it sounds as though you need to be in the top end of the range.

Your B12 is stored in the liver and heavy drinking will deplete it substantially. You can try but I dont think you will get an MRI on the NHS unless its absolutely necessary.

Well, you said the B vitamin tests checked ok I would assume that the bleeding is not caused by an anemia by deficient B12 for I assume he looked at that... and hence your doc is stumped... and negligent for not prescribing a colonoscopy, IMHO. and with your drinking history and age you are about due anyway. are you around 50 years old?

Many of the B vitamins are produced within the gut. Your intestinal flora makes B vitamins (but not B12 which must be eaten).. so if you want to improve your health you should work on improving your intestinal flora. I recommend the products found on this site.. www.crohns.net as these are all generally good products. Can large amounts of alcohol damage intestinal floras? I have not read that it is so but to me it is suspect due to all the other issues it causes. I hope you are getting away from that stuff.

B12 can be beneficial for a variety of conditions that way exceeds normal blood levels, and in general what docs consider normal levels I consider low. Other B vitamins can be of benefit when dosage exceeds normal blood levels. This is called megadosing with vitamins and in large dosages they can have theraputic effects for a time.. but should not be taken forever at these dosages but generally several months is OK. B12 is the exception. You can take a lot of B12 indefinately without side effects, but not so for say, B6 which megadosing should be limited to months for very specific theraputic effects.

Firstly, sorry to hear you were frightened after hearing about B12 deficiency.
That was no-one's intention.
You have some health problems, but I don't see any cause for panic. If it is down to vitamin B deficiency and associated effects, the good news is that vitamin B deficiencies are readily easily to correct - being water soluble.
The human body is remarkably resilient. I always say that given a healthy diet and a sound lifestyle, our immune system can sort out and rectify pretty much anything!

There are a few Brits on here and an Aussie, but mostly Americans. All good people though and this is a good place to pick up tips and advice and words of wisdom.

I'm not a big fan of Seven Seas... Has their one got all 11 B vitamins in it? You could try Healthspan and Higher Nature instead. E-mail them and ask for their catalogues. Also ask to be added to their mailing lists for their (free) quarterly magazines. (Always very good sources of information on natural health issues.) You learn a lot that way. - UK only.
They also have nutritional experts you can ask advice from.

I got seven seas as it was the only one available avoiding gelatine, but found a prescription one without it in , so was more or less persuaded to get that, also have marmite and brewers yeast, it is surprising how better I feel after a hot cup of marmite sometimes, waste of time asking the doc what to take regards natural stuff as they always say 'No' , so I just have to do trial and error, its good to keep this thread going as i am going to make sure these points get read by many in the healt practice and related services.

It will help me to get all my points in regards the docs this thread, one thought that has cropped up though is that they will just dismiss it because they will say my B tests have been OK, I dont think I had the ones mentioned but pretty sure they tested for B12, although not sure how reliable this is, my neice suffers similar symptoms, she does not drink , but went to A and E about twenty years ago with bad headache and other symptoms, they said it was just bad flu but turned out to be meningitis, its only now that she has decent neurologist that they are trying to find out exact causes , have done a few test but nothing yet, a brainscan showed her imnmmune system was doing something to brain but they did not know why, anyway the point was regards teh B12, she managed to get them to check for it, it was low at the time, and she had injections, but later on they said that was not the problem.

Well, as I said, megadosages of B12 and some of the others can be medicinal. It will effect a change that normal dosages or blood levels of these vitamins cannot do.
Most docs don't know about this or accept it... This is entering into the territory of Orthomolecular medicine.

Am looking for coffee and tea alternatives also as these set the condition off if I overdo it (also tiredness and stress set off attacks) was hoping to get Dandex , a dandelion coffee but don't think they do it anymore.

Good news! started taking better B vits, cut my caffein intake down and started using the yellow dock again all these about a week ago, and for the last two days have been able to do a fair amount of physical and mental stuff without getting exhausted, I can only presume it is Pernicious anaemia and they missed the B12s as I was staking my own on and off , so may have shown up OK in the tests at the time.

Why dont you contact that doctors office and ask them to mail you your lab work results so you know what they tested for and the results. seems like you are shooting in the dark to me. I always keep copies of my lab reports. for reference. You should absolutly know what you are doing and why. At least start trying to put the puzzle pieces together. I would want to test it and see if it really is a B12 issue....but thats just me.

B12 issues, if you are not a vegetarian this is usually usually caused by disgestive issues...so you can take all the B12 in the world and all you will be is dependent on B12 supplements... when really what needs correcting is a digestive issue.

read this article. it explains it all:

I agree you should have your B12 levels checked. The liver is supposed to store up to 4 months bodily requirement for B12. The fact that you started getting neuropathy symptoms initially means your liver storage had run out and taking the odd B Complex supplement now means you are probably metaphorically" running on fumes" as far as B12 is concerned.

If for example your car 'low oil' warning light had come on, would you just pour in a cupful of oil to make the light go off or would you put in enough until the oil dipstick showed it was over the recommended level?

Playing around with low B12 levels is dangerous and taking a B Complex supplement which includes Folic acid can mask low vitamin B12. This is why I stressed you get your B12 levels checked BEFORE taking a B Complex supplement.

If you are masking B12 deficiency you could eventually end up with spinal deformaties and other long term problems. You need to get tested and make sure you end up with B12 levels of 600/700.

Before you start taking folic acid, your GP will check your vitamin B12 levels to make sure that they are normal. This is because folic acid treatment can sometimes improve your symptoms so much that is masks an underlying vitamin B12 deficiency. If a vitamin B12 deficiency is not detected and treated, it could affect your nervous system (brain, nerves and spinal cord).

Thanks for that, I will go back again, I have asked three times for a printout, but they have said 'what do you want to know ' and then read it off the screen for eg Iron, B12, liver tests, so I will put it in writing now and ask them for it. Its hard to push for things in person when you have this because if it gets emotional it can kick off an attack

Cannot recall exactly what they said regards B12, just that it was OK
