I'm hoping someone can offer me some insight, or at the very least some comfort.
Yesterday I began spotting 9 days before my period, something that has never happened to me in my life. I thought perhaps that this had been caused by the excessive pelvic exercises I had done the previous day at the gym. I should note here that I have been exercising now for only 2 months, and I understand that this can sometimes affect your menstrual cycle, which usually occurs for me between 26-30 days. I woke up feeling discomfort in my pelvis and later in the day noticed the spotting, which was was very light and pink in color. I disregarded it as perhaps some trauma caused to the vaginal canal. This morning, however, I woke up feeling as though I was "gushing". I went to the bathroom and was bleeding quite heavily, so I decided to go to the ER. There they gave me a cervix exam and several tests, i.e. pregnancy, STDs, all which turned up nothing. The ob-gyn did determine that it was coming from my uterus. She discharged me with nothing more than a "don't worry" attitude. Only I AM worried.
I can't think of anything else, other than the strenuous exercise, which could be causing this. I'm not experiencing any discomfort of any kind and yet I continue to bleed. It's not soaking through my pads or anything, but it is freaking me out.
Welcome to the forum amb1974. I've experienced several times spotting in between periods, heavy or light bleeding, long and short cycles, etc. I never thought too much about it at the time, and luckily there were never any problems. I agree that starting an exercise program, especially an intense one, may throw off your cycles. I guess it's possible that there may be a fibroid in your uterus that's causing the unusual bleeding. I don't have much advice to offer, but if it were me, I'd just wait this one out and see how things go. See how your next period is, maybe things will be back to normal. If you have any pain, or really heavy bleeding, I would recommend seeing a GYN, and maybe getting an ultrasound to check for fibroids. Good luck, don't freak out , and keep us posted about how things are going for you.

I am not sure if this will make you feel any better, but I recently had something like this happen. I had my period the beginning of Feb, and then two weeks later I had an extra period (another week of bleeding, except with no pain). It freaked me out, but same as you I had been exercising so I really don't know :[[
Have you started a new type of birth control method? Sometimes that will cause extra periods and/or changes in your period. Did you have cramps during the night or in the morning when you woke up... It seems odd to me that the doctor didnt give you any explanation. I hate to say it, but is it possible that you might have been a couple weeks pregnant and maybe miscarried...I would have thought that a doctor would tell ya that, but hey you never know about doctors nowadays? I agree with K2C, wait till next period and see what happens, if it happens again, call your gyn and make a visit. I sure hope everything is ok
