after some 10 years of drought and stinking hot summers in Australia
we have had a complete turn around and are now getting a lot of rain.
it's the height of summer here and there have barely been any sunny days
even when it is warm it's humid and or windy
I dont know which is worse but I'm tired of all this rain almost as much as I was tired of the hot summers
I dread to think what's coming next , snow maybe
anything is possible with our crazy weather pattern

Audi, I feel for you. Really. Central Texas has been in an extreme drought too. It's been so bad that farmers were deprived water for any second crop they wanted to have. Water is controlled by the river authority. Then we had horrible fires, just like you have. Texas is typically dry and parched then flooding then dry and parched then flooding. We are getting some very much needed rain. About 3 inches in a week. Not much. Not enough to get us out of an extreme drought yet. I don't want to complain, but the gray days are getting depressing.

I recently watched a program about the Australian drought. Very interesting. They followed a kangaroo and how efficient they were with water. They seem to have incredible defenses to last for 10 years before danger of death. Also fascinating was how she was able to support her baby and also still have one in the pouch. The baby died though. The drought was just too much. I was surprised that kangaroos are such baby factories. No other animal can do what they do with procreation.

I'm happy to hear you are getting rain, but sorry for your mood. Be happy that you are not in the Seattle, WA area. It has the highest suicide rate in the USA, due to constant cloudy days.

jfh, Australia is a land of fire and water we usually get both every year and it is amazing how wildlife has adapted to survive in such extremeties ,I believe the kangaroo can actually halt the growth of the baby in the pouch until more favourable conditions and many native plants won't germinate until they have been touched by fire
during the drought I watched the natives plants in my garden thrive and other plants wither now with all the rain the natives are suffering and others thriving ,as for me I struggle with the heat and gloomy weather
there's no pleasing some people LOL

sounds like Texas has the same weather pattern to us, the el nino effect followed by the el nina ,wish it would stablise soon
I heard it rains a lot in Seattle, that constant gloom blocking out the sun would make any one suffer SAD due to lack of vitamin D

it's a sunny day here today and I have been in the garden all morning had to come in as it's getting too hot now, ok that's enough complaining about the weather LOL

How strange it would be to have a bright and warm Christmas day and New Year's.

I lived in Hawaii in the early 50s before it was a State. I remember the warm Christmases.

Mele Kalikimaka. It's the thing to say on a bright Hawaiian Christmas day.

January 9th: A chap down the road has mown his lawn!

January 11th: On the other side of town, daffodils are in bloom...

Daffodils in January?! Oh, my goodness!

It's still unseasonably warm here, 50s & 60s.

The Chicago area is getting its first real snow storm of the season. Started around noon and we are up to about 2" now and supposed to continue all night. A more or less typical snow fall for the area.

Right before dinnertime, as I was peeking in my mailbox, a car beeped as it was getting closer to my front yard. What a surprise.. I had just been thinking it was too nice a day not to take a walk and out jumps my daughter & her dog!
Off we went~

It was in the upper 40s today, but felt warmer for some reason.

How nice to hear you had a walk with your daughter and her pup, doesn't get any better than that! It got cold here last night, and we had around 4 inches of accumulated snow...but it was partly sunny and not too bad today, maybe 30 degrees F. Also had a pleasant walk with hubby and the dog.

He hasn't been off their property too much & has just started dog obedience classes, so he was all over the place on his leash hahaha Soooo many new dogs barking, houses, noises, smells!
When it hits in the 20s, I generally stop walking outside as it's too hard to catch my breath coming back up the street/hill. It happens to me on really hot days too.

You had a little *crunch* under foot, huh? We got snowshowers yesterday, but it didn't stick.
All I can say is I'm really feelin' it for the people in Cordova: 18 FEET!

Olfactory overload. I had a neighbor dog several years ago. A beagle. I swear, his brain was in his nose. He would be obedient, but only until his nose took over. Sweet dog though. I laughed and loved to hear him howl. No barking at all. Just howls.

We finally got some rain in central TX. Not anywhere close enough to get us out of this extreme drought. One day the temp was 74. Next day no higher than 50. 68 today, then low 70s, then 50s. Roller coaster. Tired of it.

Cedar fever has control of my life now. I live in a mountain cedar forest. The male trees are sometimes surrounded by their pollen. Looks like smoke or dense fog. I hope the females are satisfied and produce an abundance of juniper berries. Makes human live miserable. Total sinus breakdown. No sleep. I don't know how it gets into the house. Its pollen is so very tiny. I can dust off my coffee table, and a few days later I can grow carrots on it.

Exclamation

We've been into a cold blast here in N. Ky...nights in low teens or single digits & days in low 20's.
Tiny bits of ice & snow, lots of rain STILL! Not enuff snow for a snowman but enuff to make the roads
dicey. Sand trucks are handling it fine. The refreeze is bad due to continued extreme temps.
Looking for a temp rebound on Mon & Tues but MORE rain again!

unseasonably warm here and next to no snow so far. We have been taking walks in the 40 degree weather.
