Default Whey Protein Concentrate Vs. Whey Protein Isolate.

Someone please explain the 2 of them to me?

From what I understand the Isolate is a more processed form of the Concentrate, thats why Isolate costs so much more. But I also understand for the purpose of atkins low carb recipies, there is probably no advantage to paying more for the Isolate. Unless of course one is better then another in terms of cooking etc.

Here, in Sudbury I bought 900 grams of Whey protein Isolate... for a wopping 49.99 plus tax. That's $2.70 cents per bowl of warm cereal I make. Add to that the cost of the flax, 500 grams for $8.00 plus tax and this cereal is pretty darn expensive although still cheaper then a couple egg mcmuffins at Mcdonalds. Or for that matter a large coffee and danish at Tim hortons. hmmm maybe it ain't to bad after all... but anyway.

I'm trying to determine what my options are next time I need to buy some WHey.

Thanks.

I can't help you on the difference between the two. I had trouble at first even finding the whey protein isolate...and ended up getting a SF Vanilla flavored drink mix made mostly of whey protein isolate...but it was expensive.

I find I like the cereal made with unflavored (natural flavor) soy protein isolate better. I only need 1/3 a cup of it (w/ 1/3 a cup of flax seed meal). It was a few dollars cheaper then the whey, and it seems to last longer.

But eihter way...its great to have when you just can't eat anohter egg....

Mine is Sugar Free vanilla Flavoured as well , and expensive as hell. I have been pondering Soy protein, and flavoring with Vanilla Extract or something. There is a store here that specializes in body building supplements only... Perhaps there I will figure it out. Maybe I can get a 10 pound tub of whey protein concentrate cheeply?

I just want to save a buck or two.

Grrr... I just got off the phone with Bob's red mill. I wanted to order 4-32 ounce packages of Organic Flax Meal... for 14 dollars American. I'm think wow 8 pounds for 14 bucks vs. here its 1 pound for 8 canadian.

Then she tells me the shipping charges.. 22 dollars american. In the long run after exchange and taxes etc... I wouldn't be saving all that much.

Jon, I asked the lady at our local health food store about bulk flaxseed, TVP & other stuff. I got a 10kg(22lb) bag of flaxseed for around $19Can, as well as considerable savings on the other things. She knows that I'll be a regular customer for other things. Someplace you could go & ask?

I have talked to both of the major Health food stores in my area this afternoon infact. Both only sell the meal in one pound packages. One would be willing to give me a 10% discount if I ordered a box of 12 at a time, but that ain't much of a deal really. The other one does have the seeds in bulk that they can mill for me. Its about 40% cheaper, I'm just worried about how long have they had the bulk bag sitting in the back room sort of thing, and how fresh would it be.

I suppose I could get the seeds, but then I would need to buy something to grind them up with, and I'm a pretty busy boy with talking on this message board and trying to work at the sametime. Maybe I will just try one pound of the bulk seeds milled, and see how they tast in comparison to the cold milled vacuum packaged one i bought earlier.

Thanks for the Advice Lexi.
